Title: Spektrum DX6i stick configuration
Post by: Hotglove on May 27, 2018, 11:32:57 am
Hi all, I have installed a brushless motor and ESC in my Dumas model, which I bought pre-built.
It came with a Spectrum 6 channel aero receiver which had the ESC connected to the elevator channel and the steering connected to the rudder channel.
This gave the left stick of the DX6i transmitter as the steering control (not self centring) and the right stick as a self-centring forward/reverse throttle. I like this set up.
Having fitted the brushless ESC also to the elevator channel I found that the motor did not turn. Changing the connection to the throttle channel of the receiver gave the result that forward and reverse worked OK, but now I had steering and throttle on one stick  with no self-centring.
I would like to know the simplest way to get back to a setup with self-centring throttle on one (either) stick and steering on the other stick.
Thank you.

Just keep plugging the rudder servo into different channels in the receiver & waggling the stick you wish the rudder to work on, when the servo moves you know you have plugged it into the correct channel.

was it really the elevator channel that you plugged the ESC into? sometimes after market RXs are mis-labelled.

Connect the rudder servo to the aileron channel.
Simples!

Thanks for the input, yes I can connect the steering to the aileron channel, but that still leave me with the throttle being controlled by the left hand stick, which does not have self-centring.
Ideally, I would like to have rudder control on left stick and throttle on the right stick, which is self-centring.
The original setup was a brushed ESC and motor with the ESC connected to elevator channel on rx and steering connected to rudder channel on rx
Thank you.

Can't you take the back of the DX6i and adjust the screw that operates the ratchet?
I have a DX6 and as I remember that's all that was needed for self centreing although you always get the warning throttle high message when you switch on the TX, easily remedied just pull the lever back. Hope this helps.
      Cheers, Pete. :-))

Thanks again for input, but I now believe that the problem is simply that the receiver is faulty.
Will check it out, replace as necessary and give an update.

New receiver fitted, all working as required, I am guessing that boat builder use elevator channel for throttle because throttle channel was US.
In the meantime just reset the transmitter to mode 1 which has given me the result that I wanted, left hand stick left and right for rudder, right hand stick centre weighted fore and aft for throttle plus gear up and down switch for running lights.
Just need to cut thread on new propshaft to get her in the water.
Thanks again for all the input.
