Title: Amera vac-formed trawler

Hello,
Has anyone heard of these vac-formed mouldings?  They are very compact (<15" for my fishing boats) but the vac-formed mouldings are still good enough to build something small and reasonable from them for the price.

I am on my second "kit" for W102 which is close-enough to"Wanderer" as-is -co-incidentally an old model mag plan and the boat is registered in my town (INS161).

...They are open to offers.  For my second kit they did a wheelhouse moulding slightly thicker and sold me an extra hull I could use for something else.  I would post a link to a photo but photobucket seems not to play game at all now.  For a hull about 13" long if you are creative they seem like a good source for the money!

The W103 in the first link does look to have a lot of Graupner Pollux in its ancestry.  Could be suitable for tug football.

I thought that. The Mk1 Pollux rather than the new beamier Mk11

More familiar with Amera for there wargaming products which have quite a good rep.

I have another "kit" here (superstructure vac-formed from a slightly thicker material this time as first one was very delicate).  I also have a spare hull I can build something else from.  It seems a good resource for cheap-bases to work from.  Amera are open to suggestions also.  Cheap way into the hobby, or something small to base something better on -good deal so far.

Do the W102 Shelter Deck Trawler and W103 Tug share the same hull as did the Pollux and Antje?

They look very similar although the specs show the W102 to be slightly longer & it might be deeper.

Is there the scope with the moulding as supplied to make the hull deeper rather than cutting off unwanted depth?

Thanks for question. They are based upon the same hull. The tugs transom is stretched.The trawlers profile is slightly deeper.  There is a little scope to deepen the hulls, but then the decks won’t fit correctly as they are measured for an exact fit.  Also, you will be left with a visible trim line for cutting out the hull from its moulding.We can supply just the hull mouldings if you want to scratch build?

At the Model Boat Convention as also at a few other shows we had the Pollux Tug Football matches in the pond, however what we were finding is that with the demise of the original Pollux tug they were getting hard to find or went for silly prices on fleebay, the Amera hull was put forward as a possible substitute as in size and looks it was very similar and details were sent out to all clubs, one club did purchase a few to take on the resident champions " Ribble MBC" , always hard to tell but I think they did win, but unfortunately more often the case they ended up taking each other on.


By chance I was recently able to pick up 4 of the Amera hulls, 3 of which also had a spare top. Not sure exactly what I am going to do with them as they need gutting but hope to get them all sailing again one day.  This picture is with the 4 Amera hulls and also 2 original Polluxs.


It was only the other day when tidying up my pc with photos I found the video I took of a tug football match and noticed that these were the 4 Amera tugs on vid.. Will put it up on YouTube to view.

I think that you would be a great person to tell us about how you have all found it best to waterproof the electrics in your small models!  :-)) :-))
