present status: crane bases fixed and a crane prototype installed. Have now two issues to handle:
1: The crane prototype is fitted with sewing thread but that does not look right. Any suggestion where i can find something more resemblant of crane wire?
2: operation of the crane hook and the carne boom up/down is no problem - I have two small winches installed. To make the crane turning right/left is another story. Guess it will take a few hours of thinking plus sipping a wee dram or two...

I recently got some 0.5mm black cord from a local craft shop. Perhaps you have a craft shop near you.

HI Tug Captain
Re Crane turning fix a metal rod to the crane body ,drill suitable hole down thro crane base and fix a toothed belt pulley to the rod and use a sail winch servo with a toothed belt pulley in the hold out of sight

For my crane I used braided fishing line 36kg .44mm diameter.
I bought this on line from Wish 7 Aussie dollars for 100 meters.

Bigfoot, we are thinkinh along the same lines. The crane prototype has a 6 mm brass tube from the top of the crane base thru the deck. Inside the crane top is a 5 mm tube which ends some 20 mm below deck. This tube will turn the crane and the hook and crane arm wires run inside. For turning I planned to fit a geared wheel etc but yr idea with a belt drive might be easier to instal.
The Wizard, found a braided line, 0,35 mm, at the local anglers shop, which would be perfect but for two things. Color yellow, price tag high. Might be cheeper to import from Oz.....

Tug Captain. Go to Wish.com 100meter rolls in whatever colour you like from $3 upwards and often with free postage.

Look on the internet for beading thread, usually made in america and sold in hobby craft shops, it comes in a variety of colours and is quite strong, might be a better option
