Title: Cheap Mini Oscillating Detail Sander
Post by: Colin Bishop on December 28, 2018, 04:12:51 pm
This may have been mentioned before but there will be people who are unaware of it.
Back in 2011 the Model Boats website forum carried a topic on converting an old electric toothbrush into a mini detail sander. I came across the post the other day and having got a spare toothbrush to hand, tried it out and found it worked very well. Just right for delicate sanding of small areas and blending in etc. Wilko sell these brushes for just £4.50 new so it's a cheap little power tool by any description.

You just gave me an idea for paint! I have an old jigsaw I had one of the long blades from which I ground off the teeth, then using some masking tape to secure the paint tinlet/bottle what have you to the blade, use the jigsaw as an automated shaker. But a handheld electric jigsaw is rather overkill for the sizes model paint comes in.
It just maybe that you could do similar with an electric toothbrush! I used to use a cheapo battery coffee stirrer to 'whisk' Humbrol tinlets, but that is not possible with the squeeze bottles that many paints come supplied in nowadays.
