Title: Newbie question about speed controllers

Hello all,


Just fell into possession of a tired Tito nero tug.
It has two motors controlled by one speed controller and a bow thruster controlled by another.
It has never been running so looking through it all and was unsure how to run the motors separate with out putting to much voltage through the system. I want to run the motors separate which would mean two separate speed controllers and two batteries at 12v, however I think this would mean I wouldn't put 24v into the receiver or a larger voltage than required so if I cut on both spead controlllers output to the receiver the white or red wire and ran the receiver of the 6v from bow thruster would this work.


Any help from experience is appreciated cause as you can tell I'm clueless. It's all new.

Hope this may be of some use I think its right. Other members may confirm the wiring.
If your bow thruster is 6v you could put in a voltage reducer.
It is probably worth putting a fuse in the positive line.

This looks fine but you do not need to cut the cables. The socket can be released from the plug and taped back..I have set you a pm also. Most speedos have a built in BEC this circuit reduces the voltage from your drive battery down to 5.5 volts. If you leave all the red wires on the speed controllers it will mean you have three BEC feeding into the receiver it will smoke and go bang.

Thanks very much for the help, that really helps clear it up. Any decent suggestions for speed contolllers for 12v graupner 900 motors. So many on eBay etc but can't work out the prices, some hundreds and some pounds.

Hi Kittiwake
I am using Hobbyking  ESC's which will run on 12 volts and have a link setup.
So no program card required.
These are the only ones I have found that you can crash from forward straight in reverse with no brake.

Banggood have one, but it has a built-in brake setup.
These have both have BEC's to run the receiver.

HI Kittiwake before you look for speed controllers for these motors just a few specs about them.
Graupner 900 motors nominal voltage  12 volts  no load rpm 6.500 no load current 1.1 amps Current at max effic 8 amps  stalled current 54 amps.

It would be good practice to fit speed controllers that will be able to handle 54 amps. Fuses will have to be fitted on each speed controller at a lower rating hope this helps.
