Title: Looking for photos and reference material - PCF or Swift Boats
Post by: RipSlider on September 24, 2007, 05:12:30 pm
Hello all.

I've just ordered the caldercraft PCF "Swift boat", used in vietnam. I want to push the scale building as hard as I can, so I am looking for any books/web sites/articles/photo's/anything else that you may have come accross that I can use as references for the build.

I have found Swiftboats.com and swiftboats.org, but these do not have a huge number of useful photo's on them. Google Images doesn't turns up a lot of "action" shots, but no really useful images for scale references.

Also, the boat is 1:16 scale. has anyone come accross any model people in this scale? Specifically, wearing US marine or special forces equipment?

many thanks in advance

Steve

Hi,

For vietnam figures in 1/16th try  http://www.historexagents.com/shop/hxshop.php
They come under verlinden 120mm figures. I'm sure they used to do more - perhaps ring the guys at historex they may be able to put you onto old stock or another manufacturer.

Reference material try
http://www.pcf45.com/
http://brownwater-navy.com/vietnam/BoatsSwift.htm
http://www.bcres.com/river/steffes.htm
http://www.warboats.org/pcf.htm

Hope the above will be of use

Regards

Are these the right boats? "Motor gun boat" seems to be used for a few different types of boat. Mainly the ones below, but there is another class of boat that is smaller than a PBR that also gets called the same name.

This is a hydrofoil daughter class.

This one seems to be one that got converted to a civilian role

In the last few days, I've sort of stumbled into a number of Vietnam veteran groups. they have literally tons of photo's. I've managed to get something like 500 for the PCF, just of the boats, plus a whole load of cool modelling ideas.

For example, on the PCF boats, the gun tubs were really uncomfortable, so they made "seats" out of piles of life jackets. that's *got* to be modelled...

Anywho, I'll see if any of the brown water navy chappies know about the PGM's, there will be a group somewhere. If you PM me your e-mail, I'll see if someone can pass it on to the right people.
