Title: Single cylinder steam plant
Post by: Martin (Admin) on April 11, 2019, 08:00:23 am

Via email to Mayhem....

Wotcher from Melbourne OZ

I want to put a single cylinder steam plant in a boat but it being a one plonker I need a gearbox. My tool skills are limited and basic  but I can fiddle  and eventually get a result.

Could I couple an old  car gearbox ....if so which one ?..... cos they seem to be reversed by the ESC nowdays, as do boats.

I seem to recall, probably pre 1983, that there was such a beast with plans etc in Model Boats but I have tried Gooooooogleing it but so far no luck.

I would put money on the fact that one of your mayhemmers will have a relatively simple answer.

Thanks in advance.......Colin

PS... Pre 1983 I used to play with the Canvey Island Club, mainly planes and every year or so helped the Ford Dunton club put on a boating display at Sunnymede school, Billericay, Essex.

Hello
For reverse you can use a kitchen ruder. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitchen_rudder

two blades on one shaft (pipe)and the stering servo on a slide
