International Model Boat Show 9 - 11 November 2007
The International Model Boat Show is set to return to the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, near Leamington Spa from the 9 th - 11 th November 2007. As the only 3 day marine modelling exhibition dedicated to all aspects of marine modelling, visitors are guaranteed a packed hall with club displays, demonstrations and specialist suppliers.
This unique exhibition features displays by a variety of clubs and societies with some of the finest marine models on show. The displays range from modern power boats to early warships, with dedicated enthusiasts on hand to give practical advice on marine modelling. The excellent and varied display of static models is complemented by action on the two boating pools. Experts will again be on hand to answer any questions from the visitors and demonstrate their skills in the craft of boat building and knot tying. A total of over 700 models will be on display from the twenty six clubs present.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase whatever they need from the vast variety of products offered by the comprehensive selection of over 30 specialist suppliers. Everything from a single anchor to an entire kit.
Show Director, Chris Deith explained;
“We are delighted that the International Model Boat Show is now regarded as the premier model boat show in the UK . We are looking forward to presenting another action packed and fun event for everyone”.

Special Feature at the Show – Oared and Rowing Boats
The International Model Boat Show organised by Meridienne Exhibitions is this year hosting a special display of Oared and Rowing Boats for one day only on Saturday 10th November.
This special gathering of oared and rowing boats provides an ideal environment and perfect location for these unique models being an indoor exhibition with a large pool, not affected by the weather elements.
The models will have a special display table and two dedicated sailing times on the pool during the day.
If you would like to bring your models please contact Avril Spence at Meridienne Exhibitions by email avril@meridienneexhibitions.co.uk. Avril would like to know details of your model and a picture if available as well as your postal address so that she can liaise with you for the paperwork.
All models must be booked in with Meridienne prior to the event and an entry form must be completed and returned to Avril so that the models are covered for insurance purposes.
Only pre booked models are permitted to take part in this special feature - no models arriving on the day will be permitted to participate.
Marine Modelling International is pleased to support this special event and will be offering five subscriptions to the owners of those models judged as best in class.

-
We shall also be there aswell.
Well we wouldnt want any of you to forget now ;)
-
I am going to be there for all three days (glutton for punishment) will have a couple of springers with me. Hopefully Sat/Sun we can have a football match if there are other springers there. I asked the organisers about this and they say that there will be a board besides the pool just pick a free time, or let them know in advance. Remember if you want to use your springer in the football it has to be there all three days.

hello
Is there a list of traders anywhere? (as requested 28th september )

thank you in advance

-
I'll be there Saturday and Sunday ..... and bringing my springers!
Martin,
You need to check with Meridienne that you can take the boat for just the two days. All exhibiting model boat clubs have been told that all boats MUST remain there for all three days. They have a pretty tight security system for entering and removing boats as they insure our boats whilst they are there.
Barrie
-
:) :) :)Hi Barriew
You are right about taking models to Warwick that are not with a club display.Tried this 2 years ago and they would not let me take my model in to the show. Things may have changed but it is worth a phone call to confirm.
Stan ;)
-
my understanding is they MUST be there for all 3 days.... no one day passes or exhibits............
i suggest you call meridienne to check but i am pretty sure that its 3 days or nothing !
-
Your model(s) have to be at Warwick for the full three days, if you do not belong to a club, like me and want to exhibit at the show the model(s) can be put in the loan section. Which is what I am doing, the organisers insure your model while it is at the exhibition.
I have got this information from the organisers, if you look in the springer tug section you will see there was a similar conversation a little while back.
Brian

hi does any one know if deans marine will be there cheers john

Dinner is on Colin then everyone!
Who said I was staying for lunch? Anyway Martin, you still owe me that pint you promised me at Ally Pally.
-
We will be there on saturday catching a lift up there with Ken (Tug Kenny).
Mark and Hannah.
-
Just got the floor plan - we've landed the stand next to the pool again >:(
If you see some one wearing ear defenders it will be me trying to ignore the hovercraft. I really don't think they belong in an indoor boating pool.
I will be there Friday and Sunday.
Barrie
-
Any chance of sharing the floor plan on here Barrie?
-
Martin,
Don't think it would help much. It only shows where the stands are with ours highlighted. No names on the others -it doesn't look any different to last year in terms of number of stands.
Barrie
-
i have just heard from our colleagues in the hanwell club, the organisers of this show have sent out exhibitors passes to them valid for only 2 days...so if you plan to be present at the show for all 3 days then you need to purchase a ticket to get in for one of the 3 days....
they are now very dissapointed, our club have not yet had our entry passes but if you are there for 3 days supporting their show then surely this is not right ?
the ill feeling this seems to be causing in the hanwell club meant at one stage many modellers were talking of boycotting the show, a 200 mile round trip each day and then having to pay to enter to steward the exhibits....
like i say i do not have first hand experience of this only what i have been told... any other clubs got their passes - and are they only valid for 2 days out of the 3 ?
this is especially annoying as you MUST exhibit your model for all 3 days this year ...........
-
I have had exactly the same thing for having my springer tugs in the loan section, I do not belong to a club yet. If you want to be there for three days you have to pay for one of them.
What your club members did not say was, you can use this pass to bring in a visitor, in doing so you will then have to pay for two days, not one.
I have not had experience of this show so thought it was the norm.
Brian
-
in years past you got an exhibitors pass that i used for all 3 days, - that was fine ....and appreciated.. i went all 3 days when possible, i used to spend in the canteen ( anyone who knows me knows i like my food too ! ) i used to spend with the traders and also talk to visitors to the show and promote the hobby....
i used to arrange a hotel locally and stay overnight.... this is no longer an option for me so i drive daily...
so having taken the friday off work, to go and take my boats up to the show as they have to be there all 3 days now ( in past years if work refused the holiday request i would show sat and sunday only - something you cant do now)
plus the return trips to drive on the friday, sat and sunday and i now have to pay to steward my own exhibit- it starts to put me off, its going to be a very expensive weekend for me to loan them my exhibit for their show !
as i say our club do not yet have our tickets, but if what i hear is true then its going to be more cost effective not to dispaly ....... i guess the clubs that are more local benefit but i would think twice about the 3 x 200mile round trips to steward at the show. especially if i need to pay to get in...
is this show going the same route as beale..... warwickshire show used to be one of the best, i hope this does not signal the end of era and the start of the downhill trend....
-
so let me see if i get this right. you have to exhibit for all three days or you dont get tickets. the tickets only allow you free entry for two days so you have to pay for one days entry.
if this is right then i am incredulous. exhibitors are the lifeblood of shows. without them shows die. as beale park has been finding out. if you treat exhibitors badly they go away and don't come back.
i know from experience that you have to keep your exhibitors happy.
for those of you that don't know i am an organisor of one of the countries biggest model shows.
i hope that we are seen to treat all our exhibitors well and properly, we give them free entry to the show for both days with also free entry for a guest. we give free camping for those that need it and we throw in a dance and entertainment on the saturday night.
that is why we had 15000 paying customers over the weekend and why hopefully everyone went home happy and will come again next year.
phil knell
-
you got it in one phil, thats also why we now exhibit at your show and are considering knocking the warwick show on the head !
-
What has been reported is not entirely accurate. If you are exhibiting you get a pass which allows you in on Friday OR Saturday, plus Sunday. Each club is also allowed to nominate 3 Stewards for each day in addition to the passes for exhibiting members - these could be issued in the name of an exhibitor.
Its not a problem for our club - no-one wants to drive to Leamington on three days, or to spend 3 days on the stand. One group takes the models on Friday and collects on Sunday, another group steward on Saturday. Everyone's happy ;)
Barrie
-
like i stated we dont have the tickets yet, but i guess there will be members who will want to be there for all 3 days,
i will be there friday and sunday now..............will give sat a miss.........
-
See you friday Guy
Cheers

I just found out I'm going ot the UK for 8 days for work, and will have the weekend of the 10th free. I'll be in Bracknell, so it seems reasonable to get to the show by public transportation.
I've never been to the show before-- any advice or recommendations for a first timer?
-
your best bet mybe to go by train to warwick, then get a bus or taxi to the show, not to sure on what public transport it like in that area.
17-21
Phil.
-
Bring lots of cash!
Take lots of photos.
Don't rush around, take time to study the more detailed models.
The restaurant has probable the best "British" food available.
-
hi rc boater i friend of mine went there by public transport. He got the train from oxford to lemington spar then it was a long walk to the show ground on foss way. You could take a taxi or see if there is a bus not sure if any run out that way. I think its stage coach that run the buses up that way you could give them a call.It that last bit thats hard to do sorry cant be more help.
-
I used to live in Leamington Spa and I must tell you that when I did there was little or no public transport which would get you out to the Show. As for walking (which someone mentioned) it would be a very, very long walk.
Now, if I was able to get to the show (but sadly, am not) I would have arranged to pick you up at the station...............
Roger in France.
-
Buses from Leamington Spa to Southam pass the exhibition centre at least hourly on Friday and Saturday, not sure about Sunday. I think its a No 63, or 64, Pete M

I was there today, and will be over the rest of the weekend. What a great show, the place was heaving today I could not believe how many people, if they work had the day off. Had a chat with FLJ and flexed the plastic, mixer plus a battey charger. Also had a chat with youngat65. If any Mayhem members saw me and did not talk, why not?? Do I look that scary?? alright do not answer that ;D ;D ;D
I was quite surprised with the place, it looks like a converted barn but it is warm. The food place was very busy, even though I thought a little bit pricey £2.60 for a bacon roll, but that aside very good show.
I have taken some photos which I will pass on to Martin to put where he wants, forum or web site.
If you are coming tomorrow or Sunday see you then.
Brian

yep had a great day to came home poor but happy now I got a week at Skipsea next week great this being retired and in good health

I was there today on the Lifeboat Enthusiasts' Society stand along with Phil (17-21) and a few more Lifeboat anoraks Where down by the small pool. It seemed quite busy today. If you’re at the show tomorrow or Sunday come and say hello.
-
I intend to be there tomorrow - looking forward to it.
-
We will be there Saturday. O0
Sorry to have missed you Bob, Have a nice time at Skipsea.
Martin ...
Any chance of announcing on the PA, a gathering for Mayhem folk at a certain time. Say 1.30 at the small boat pool. Also advertising our great club to the nation. The place must be full of 'Boaties' (according to Chingdevil). Perhaps some printed literature to hand out ? 8) 8) 8)
See you all there........................
Ken
-
How close is the car park to the venue ?
-
hi there the long build. the car park is a field unless the have covered it. It between 150m to 500m depending on were you park to the front door unless they have changed it hope this is of some use to you. john
-
Cheers.
Just trying to work out if its easier to take eats in ,or leave it in the car..
-
it would only take you about 5 min to get to the car and back. john
-
It was interesting to read Chingdevil's comments about the show. I was there today, flashing my Mayhem badge and the only person who mentioned it was Martin. It would have been really nice for a Mayhemmer to have said hello. It couldn't be that we are frightened of 'breaking the ice' could it?............. O0
-
I was there O0 I did have a sticker but it dropped of with out me noticing.
Met Martin , cos918 , Wombat (when you could get near the stall it was that busy), No-Mustang at the moment & Hannah
It was a long trip for me 2hrs each way but worth it, some very good displays and plenty of stalls, Not that I was aloud to buy anything. :(
-
I was there too, nice to meet Martin again and to see Brian (Chingdevil) and several other Mayhemmers. It was quite easy to miss people though, given the number of people there. I even lost track of Martin's shirt for extended periods. {-)
A very good show though, my fiirst visit but it won't be the last. Now have to wait for SWMBO to go to bed before transferring loot to workshop....
-
Hi to all I met there today, another good day. The springers had a good outing letting the children a go, I killed another one, I let the magic smoke out of the 540 motor in my new springer, very strange. No mustang thought it was great fun, thanks for your help mark much appreciated.
Action had some new motors on their stall so flexed the palstic, again. Colin I will not have to worry about SWMBO until Sunday {-) {-) {-) {-).
I heard an interesting comment while at the show today, they had a let the children have a go sesion. I put my springers forward and so did another boater, three boats out of the whole show, just three. Afterwards the other boater, I will get his name tomorrow said " how do you get the children interested if everyone is scared to let them use their boats" That is food for thought There were quite a few children who wanted to have a go, and a couple of parents took plans for the springer, so I did my bit in promoting model boating.
All in All a great day.
Brian
-
What a good day :) Unfortunately, some little gremlin managed to empty my wallet and fit a load of goodies into my pockets, can't work out how that happened ???
Lost my Mayhem badge before I got in the door :embarrassed: but I didn't se any others apart from wombat on FLJ's stand and he was busy.
However, still managed to enjoy myself.
Spotted Martin in usual pose (no not eating):
and thought this boat was very clever with the hidden rowing action - took me a while to work it out:
-
Hi Brian,
was going to let the children use Sally-Anne, but I couldn't find where to sign up or who to go to get the alarm turned off to get the tub out. A weak excuse, but I was all set for it.
Christmas present has turned out to be the Slipway Vac-form tug - it will get a cheap radio and a few kiddy thrills so when I am sailing, any curious kids can have a go. Too often, the boaters can come across as a bunch of grumpy old gits seeing anyone who comes to the lake as an intrusion.
Nice to put faces to names....who is there tomorrow?
Wom
-
I am there tomorrow Tim, I am going to keep away from Dave he costs me money. dougal99 that is me standing next to Martin.
Brian
-
Dougal,
The other guy with Martin helping to take a stereoscopic view is Brian aka Chingdevil.
Brian,
As discussed at the time, a very good point re juniors. I think that at next year's Mayhem event(s) we should make a particular effort to let the children have a go and advertise it well beforehand. There's not much damage anyone can do to the average scale boat by an inexperienced driver, especially if the owner is keeping a close eye. I have a couple of older boats I'd be very happy to be used in this way.

I made it to the show today, too- it was great! I'm so jealous-- we don't have "boat-only" shows like this in the States. I got a chance to see a ton of neat models, and talked with a lot of club members, and managed to get all sorts of little goodies I can take home next week on the plane!
I have a request that I hope some folks can help me with-- in the rush to catch my train to Leamington, I dashed off and left my digital camera in the hotel room! Arrgh!!! Worst part is, I'm the newsletter editor for our RC boat club, and I promised the guys a write-up of my trip in the next issue. If you have a few photos to share, please post them or drop me a line.
Thanks!
-
Was very interested to see Wombats reference to Model Slipways' Vac-Formed tug. Could Wom, or any of you who were there give some more detail.
The show seems to have been an enjoyable event - pity it's so far away from Scotland.
Best Wishes
Douglas
-
Martin may have more details, he was talking to Lawrie about it. As far as I could see it was around 20 inches long and retails for £20, hull and deck. Martin felt that it would have made a great Mayhem tug.
-
Thanks for that Colin - any idea of scale? I presume the idea is that you start off with this hull/deck and decide for yourself what type/design of tug you are going to build
-
Sorry, when I said deck, I meant most of the upperworks as well! I'm afraid I didn't look at it all that closely as i'm not really into tugs. It seemed to be a modern attractive design though.
-
hi all and what a great show it was O0. Meat lots of nice people put some faces to names saw lots of impressive boat. One thing that worries me is the way the show is going. Beal show was great 10 years ago and then they started to charge exhibitors and the show went in gradual decline. Reading some of the threads on this forum and speaking to people to day left me annoyed at this show. They want your boats for 3 day fair enough but they only give you a 2 day pass and charge you for the 3rd this is very wrong >>:-(and can lead to the decline of the show through less exhibitors like what happened to beal. One of my other hobbies is model railways of which i belong to the abingdon model rail club. At our show the exhibitors get free entry for all there crew free tea/Coffey free meal there fuel paid for any other legitimate Expense's and some times over night accommodation. So the show organiser of the international model boat show club learn a thing or to and stop being so greedy or it might kill the show. All in all i had a great show any will be there next year. john

Turns out it will be my Christmas pressie - going back today to get bits and pieces and a cheapie radio set for it. It will then be used for steering competitions and for any kiddies to try with when I am at the lake on a Sunday. All up cost will be £100 to £150 - so quite a cheap build.
looking at the scale of the superstructure it is about 1:40 or there abouts. I will be looking at possibly twin motors - though it has internal moudlings for a single motor/rudder - the diameter of the mount points to a 380/400 sized motor driving a 35mm to 40mm prop. No korts, though I guess you could put some on.
Wom

Thanks for the information,Wom. Very keen to see this one - no doubt something will appear on Model Slipways site soon

Me (bigH) and Ken.Thompson (member) were there on Sat; and I even dragged nearly every member of my club (South Wales Model Yacht Club) and although me and Ken wore some very nice lapel badges the only person who spoke to us was Dave (KLJ) What Happened? we didn't see any other badges even >>:-(

Well, I was wandering around with a larger old style badge stuck on my chest and several people said hello. But as i said earlier, it was easy to miss people.
-
Hello All, Well I managed to get along on Saturday with my son and granddaughter aged 5 3\4. We all had a great time and she loved having the chance to have a go with a springer tug so thanks for that guys. I was also impressed by the generosity of one stand holder you gave her a small torch on a stand, so thanks again for that. Its the small things that stick in kids minds and make them want to come back. I only saw and recognised Martin and Tug Kenny from the Mayhem weekend and did not see any other badges at all. It was probably my fault as I was too busy staring at the stands etc and sorry to say did not think to wear a badge myself. Plenty of parking and room to sit and have a coffee etc so all in all a good day out, well I would say that as I managed to keep the plastic under control. Good to see so many people there too especially as I made contact with some very friendly people from the Droitwich club who sail most Sundays only a short distance from where my son lives. Cheers Graham

Surely the hotel could post you the camera or at the very least the memory card
Other than that glad you enjoyed the show. Safe trip back stateside.

You mean Peter Arnot (steam man) standing to the right of martin.
That's me talking to Martin, Peter Arnot is bending over the stand to the right of the picture. It was nice to meet him again, I hadn't seen him for years. He wrote a lot of very interesting articles for MB in days gone by and we attended the same events in the 70s & 80s.
-
Well, I spent all day Saturday there - met Hannah and her Dad - had lunch with Martin and spent a bit with FLJ, but apart from that I met no other Mayhemers :'(
I was wearing a badge and at 6'4" I am hard to miss !! Where was everybody else ? I went with my daughter's partner and he is there on the Knightcote stand in the picture so I must have been somewhere around at that time :embarrassed:
Good show, and to finish off went sailing (as a guest of Gunboat Pete)on the Knightcote Clubs pond on Sunday morning. Rather a change from Llanberis :D ( but still enjoyable - pity there were no other members about)

:)Came down from Leeds on Saturday morning with other club members. Trade support very good. Lots of clubs spent a fortune hope to attend next year.

I had a great time there. Travelled up with 'No Mustang Mark' and family.
We met a few people and saw the picture of 'Red Pelican' being recovered from that fatefull lake, posted on a notice board. All in brilliant colour for the world to see.
I had on my flashy cap with the logo but no-one stopped me at all.
It is true that everyone was so busy looking at the stalls that people recognition doesn't come into it.
I thought of accessing the PA system myself, to get everyone together, but having heard the quality of the sound, it would have been a waste of breathe.
I too dug deep into my pockets and came away with £135 worth of tiny bits, I didn't know I wanted. ;)
I've fallen in love with my next model project. The 'Mountfleets' Boston Typhoon. Five and a half feet of modelling pleasure. Anyone have any views or pointers please. O0
All in all, it was a great show and well worth the visit. I've put the car away now until next year.
Cheers...Ken

I was there for all three days and had a great time, met a few Mayhemers spent some money and like Kenny fell in love with the Mountfleet Typhoon, would have brought it but divorce is expensive ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
It is quite an easy place to get to and it is well attended, will go next year perhaps we could have a Mayhem stall I think clubs go free. I was told by a trader there that the stall cost her £1000, yep thats right she got two tables a couple of lights and one power socket. She needed another table, which cost more and £6 Pound a day for a chair, I am definitely in the wrong business, pity. I am going to send all my pictures to martin to put on the web site, I will sort out a couple and post shortly.
Brian
-
Next time, or at any other major shows we should pre arrange a rendezvous - coffee in the cafe at 11:30 or something. Sounds like we all walked through each other!
-
I thought the show was very good , excellent displays and plenty of stalls, However I feel that a lot of these type of Exhibitions , not just Modelling overcharge , A £5.00 flat rate would have been justified, particularly if they are charging the stalls £1000 each , How much would the bits and bobs section (old springs , files nuts etc) with a large area have cost ?

Excellent idea Colin and we'll even let you buy the first round. {-)
I visited the show today and had an great time. I thought that the variety of traders was good although one or two were running out of certain items following a hectic day on Friday and busy Saturday.
Had a natter to FLJ who managed to prise some dosh out of my wallet. Welll done Dave. O0.
Kept my eyes open for the gaffer, Mr Mayhem, but didn't spot him. Maybe some other time Martin.
To the traders and exhibitors , thanks for helping to make my trip there an enjoyable experience.

Thanks for the picture Don. She is great eh !!. You going over to yachts ? I've been doing my usual research and details are quite sketchy on this model. I'm hoping for a build blog somewhere perhaps.
Thanks for volunteering Stavros. I'll be sure to keep in touch with you. ;D

The Trawler isn't mine - it was built by a clubmate - I just took the photo ! Always was a yottie for preference - though I have a few power models. I hesitated about another yacht - I have five already - but I just couldn't resist the Moonbeam it looked so fabulous.
I think Stavros was offering to paint the Moonbeam for me but I'm sure he would do the Trawler as well for you if you pushed him O0

We got back from our 750 mile round trip late this afternoon and I would like to thank all those Club members and traders who so freely gave of their time to answer all our questions and make this such an enjoyable event. My thanks in particular go to Dave at Action for being so good as to sell me one of his display samples and to Adrian at Speedline for steering me in the right direction with sorting out a problem with my Bluebird. Quite apart from being able to examine at close quarters the excellent modelling skills of other modellers, these shows allow us to look at and buy those bits and pieces that are simply not available locally. Long may such events continue. It was also a pleasure to bump into Martin - complete with camera as usual - made our visit! Here's to next year.

Just a word of thanks to all of the Mayhem members who turned up at the stand and helped to make it such a successful show for Liz and I. In no particular order, I remember seeing Kayem, BigH, Barriew, Chingdevil, Johno, WelshDruid, Faradays Cage, Telstar, Stan, Tug-Kenny, LongBuild, ALG141, Admiral Sir Colin Bishop, Kiteman1 and PeterM, along with probably a few others whom I've forgotten.
I have to mention - of course - the force of nature that is Dr Tim Fawcett (aka Wombat), who did such a magnificent job playing G-Granville to my Arkwright........ O, yeah, and a funny-looking gink with a bright blue shirt and a camera stuck to his hand. Without that final arm-twist from Da Main Man Martin Mayhem hisself in April we wouldn't have been there at all.
I think it's fair to say that we enjoyed ourselves immensely but, boy - was it hard work! Now I have to replace all the stock that you lot bought....have you no pity at all?? Seriously, thank you all for your support; it vindicates our decision to take on ACTion.

it was a good show, , great to see some 'new models' on the circuit too......... and we spent all day directly infornt of FLJ !
-
Congratulations to The Long Build for a great picture of the Blackheath stand (thats me in the hat on the left just in case you didn't know)-- good shot of the springer. It was also on my stand that Tug Kenny found a large full colour pic of that fateful moment. Had a very good show spoke to quite a few mayhemer's ( I had a large mayhemer type sign on the stand). Like the idea of a Mayhem stand, could be manned by various members during the three days (no charge for exhibiting)

Hi Phil, a Mayhem stand next year is not a bad idea we would help man it!! O0 It was nice seeing you again Phil and not wearing waders either (bet that felt strange!! {-))
Mark.

hello all. The idea of a Mayhem stand sound real good O0 I have an idea. There are a far few modelers that do not belong to a model boat club for one reason or another. It would be nice if they could put there boats on mayhem stand. surely this will help promote the forum. john
-
I would like to volunteer to 'Man the stand' if you go ahead with this.
It's the perfect solution, isn't it Guys and Gals
Mind you ... if I bring my boats, it might put people off. ;D
Can we have a megaphone .... Roll up, Roll up, sort of thing. ::)
Ken

Perhaps we could start a club, as you say John quite a few people do not belong to a club. I would help man the stand if it came about and perhaps next year we could get a game of football there with the springers.

A thank you to all the Traders and people who Displayed models . And a Big thanks to all in the Cafe
especially the lady who emptied the last of the steak and kidney pie onto my plate. I must have beat Mr Mayhem to the cafe this year.

Yes, the steak & kidney pie was, in Michael Winner's words, "historic"!

I'll take your word for that, but did they do child-size portions? Seeing what some customers were struggling to carry away from the serving counter, I think they should either reduce the size of their generous portions, or start using larger plates. I'm making half hearted efforts to watch my weight, so I only had a sandwich.

IF.... we can arrange a Mayhem Stand for next year, what should we have on it or use it for?

Steak and kidny pie by the sound of it looks like it got the best reviews

Displaying models made by Mayhemmers and as a base for "have a go sessions" on the pool for kids.
(and yes, for the Steak & Kidney)
-
"have ago sessions" .
 Don't you think there is enough of that already >>:-(

good one Colin. get them interested maybe a few Family Ticket's for next years show as prizes, to be won on some sort of competition
to be run on Mayhem. Juniors only . Maybe Martin can talk to the show organisers ??

WHY NOT USE THE STAND TO PROMOTE THE MAYHEM SITE AND MODELS ON IT,& TO POTENTIALLY ATTRACT INTEREST FROM THE TRADE TO SPONSOR MARTIN AND HIS INCREASING MAYHEM SITE OPERATING COSTS !- SO THE MODELBOAT MAYHEM STAND COULD BE BROUGHT TO YOU WITH SUPORT FROM JOE BLOGGS MODELS OR WHATEVER, THE STAND COULD BE FILLED WITH MODELS FEATURED ON THE SITE AND MODELS FROM MAYHEM MEMBERS, AND IT COULD BE A GREAT WAY OF PROMOTING THE MAYHEM SITE AND THE FORUM TO THOSE NOT IN THE KNOW ! - ALSO WHY NOT GET SOME FOOTAGE OF THE MAYHEM GATHERINGS AT WICKSTEED IN 2007 AND WALES IN 2008 AND SHOW THEM TO SHOW THOSE WHO DID NOT ATTEND WHAT THEY ARE MISSING !
ITS GOT TO BE A BENEFIT SURELY !
( MAYBE SPONSERED BY PUKKA PIES STEAK AND KIDNEY FLAVOUR !!!)
-
I think that if it's deemed to be a commercial stand we'd have to pay for it - a lot! I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be a "club" stand thoughg, with member's models as you suggest Guy.
-
Is there room for another stand ?
The layout was almost the same as last year, and there wasn't a lot of gaps in the floor space, as I recall. Will they have room for the world's Number One Boat Club.
So we won't be able to sell any Pies, then Colin ? ;D
Ken
-
And as much mischeif and mayhem that can be got away with ;D
-
I'm sure that Chris and Avril could find space for a Mayhem stand, the only problem I can see is not manning it, but chosing the many models out there to put on it, not a job for us lesser mortals, but our esteem leader me thinks. Meanwhile (stick with it for a moment) if any mayhemers out there do happen to have a slightly unusal model, either finished or under construction could you let me know, as I have been charged with a mission (or lumbered more like) by Avril from Meridienne Exhibitions, to bring different styles of models etc to the london show. So I thought, if I'm lumbered (I mean charged with a mission) why not get some help from all my fellow mayhemers------over to you
Phil

so how big would this mayhem stand have to be .As there is 1585 members , Thats all lot of boat and even more pies O0 john
-
...well I have enough unfinished projects to fill a small double garage!
-
I think the stand would be a good idea, it would promote Mayhem we could also let the kids have a go outside their own measly hour. You know we could have a selection, with the owners permission of boats that they could pick from and go on the water with there was plenty of slack time over the three days to accomidate this. Mayhem member with them so they do not get in trouble, give them ideas to build thier own, like springer plans plus instructions for building.

Sorry I missed you - Mark said you were there but I didnt connect.
Photo of Boston Trawler to motivate you O0
Plus one of the model I ordered.
Don B.
The Moonbeam looks great, any chance of seeing a build thread when you start her?
-
ok, i do understand about the issues of the mayhem stand becoming commercial at warwick and then being charged a fee to display...... hence my suggestion of potential sponsorship of some kind... but anyway point taken....
i think the idea of some kind of competition is a great one !- winners gets a mayhem t shirt and the chance to chow down on a steak and kidney pie with martin and colin ! ;D
-
...well I have enough unfinished projects to fill a small double garage!
well its winter now, finish them! :P

Sounds like it was really great, just wish I was up to going.... but then there is next year :)

I will get my finger out and upload several show galleries, in the mean time...
