I wanted to make the jet drives removable so the next few photos should be self explanatory.
I would have thought the sensible way to marry the jet drives to the buckets would be to bolt them together with the transom sandwiched between them, but this is not the case.
It would appear that the drives are designed to be bonded to the transom, this would work but they would not be removable.
My answer is to make a 1mm brass plate with a hole in the center to sit over the jet drive, 7 mounting holes drilled to match the bucket mounting holes with brass nuts soldered to it for ease of fitting.
Screw the buckets through the transom into the brass plate, after first putting tape on the edges of the hole in the transom to stop the drive bonding to the hull Key the back edge of the drives put a small amount of epoxy resin on it and push it into place through the brass plate and let it set. When cured unscrew the bucket from the brass plate and remove the drive complete with brass plate and put aside until required, I’m going to fit it using silicon gasket sealant which will last indefinitely but allow removal if required.

Similar to what I did on my Speedline Shannon.
I'm considering fitting a brass plate right across the transom in order to secure the other screws. Believe that there is spare balance weight available.

Mine are removable and it’s all detailed in the R&D thread but it is much easier with styrene
Nice job you have done :-))

I’ve since ditched the 2mm threads and used the supplied SS self tappers

Yes I did see that post, I was a bit concerned about the holding power of 2mm threads in 2mm styrene, I see you also think that hence the self tapping screws.
-
Yes you thought right :-)) the 2mm threads were fine as long as you did not over tighten :embarrassed: The supplied self tappers are very secure
-
Not too pretty but certainly functional.
-
Looks very good indeed
Nice to see alternative approaches :-))
I see you fitted the trim tab mounts upside down to correct the protrusion below the hull O0
-
I was going to use the self tappers to secure the intake grills through the hull into the drives, my other option is to drill and tap brass bar 2mm and bond this on the drive casing securing flange and use countersunk bolts.
-
That's what I intend to do.
-
I change all of the Allen head bolts to Torx as they don’t round off.
-
Not satisfied with one mistake then I make the same mistake again, I now have to desolder 2 XT60s to fit the shrink wrap.
-
I think we all do that kind of thing {-)
Keep sharing thanks :-))

The power board is taking shape.
-
Skeg/bucket protector/keel plate and spray rails screwed/bolted/bonded in place.
-
The final electronics layout, 4 servo’s - buckets and steer nozzles, 2 power distribution boards with cooling fans, 2 esc’s and 2 x 12volt radio controlled takeoffs for lights etc.
-
:-)) Another exciting Shannon build taking shape. Great attention to detail!
-
Almost completed the electrics, 2 x 3s 5000ma lipo’s. Each connected to a power distribution board via a 50a breaker. 2 remote controlled 11.1v power take offs, 2 x 60a ESCs and 2 x 1250 outrunners.

As well as the good ones you see the screw ups as well on this post.
-
The first of the handrails, start with the easy ones.

Not being funny here at all Bilge Rat this is a thread about the Jet drives so why not start a new topic in the LIFEBOAT section all about your own build...otherwise it will go like Canterbury Coxswain build as others have now posted their own builds on it and is totally confusing ...just my 2 pennys worth and believe you me it is NOT a personal dig at yourslef

Fair point, i May just do that. I started with the jet drives and it just sort of evolved. Please feel free to add to it if you wish.
I’m quite new to this site and still understanding how it works.
