Good Morning all

At present I am building a steam yacht and would like advice on what steam engine would be a good match for this boat.

Bonjour Mike,

Based on my collection, I would kindly recommend you a 2 cm3 with a 4 blades 50 mm propeller, quite enough for small boats like this one.

Personally I own JMC steam plants with slide valves, example : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sj-lYo7-z0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sj-lYo7-z0) https://www.jmc-vapeur.fr/ (https://www.jmc-vapeur.fr/)
Needs 2 servos

Cylindrical valves Anton Quartz, example  : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msoE4gl1qtw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msoE4gl1qtw) http://www.anton-vapeur.fr/index.php (http://www.anton-vapeur.fr/index.php)
Needs only one servo

There are also oscilating machines, example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpQjcY7Qdqo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpQjcY7Qdqo)

Needs also only one servo

The size of the vertical boiler wlll have an impact on the stability of the launch, this is why I put a Kingdon on a large one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZQgdepAf84 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZQgdepAf84)

I hope this will help you in your choice.

Good Evening Raphael

Many thanks for your reply.

I have in the past used an Anton Jade in a Borkum however, the waiting time when I last spoke to them was in excess of 6 months for an engine.

I favour the JMC 3 which you pointed out, I will now contact the manufacturer to find out his lead-in time from an order. I will match this engine to a "Pendle Steam" boiler.

Best Regards

Mike

Bonjour Mike,

Fabrice Anton Bretagne has slowed down his production for personal reasons, I am sad to confirm it because I like his quality products.

Jean-Marc CLOUP has also become a friend, I quote him often and I have a lot of his steam plants including several 3 cm3 ==> my San Julian 2 for example is equipped with one and as you can see it, she is not a small boat :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1EdKTdvFKU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1EdKTdvFKU) this is why I suggest at first 2 cm3.

Tell him you contact him because I suggested it and you would be possibly offered a little reduction and a quick service if you ask him ok2

Of course, I am not interested in his business !

And I also have a good relationship with Nigel, he is also a great professional.

Thank you Raphael.  We have just introduced our biggest standard production boiler at Six inches diameter...only for bigger boats!http://pendlesteamboilers.com/Horizontal-Boilers/ (http://pendlesteamboilers.com/Horizontal-Boilers/)If anyone has any questions please ask. I also have two Twelve inch diameter boilers completed and tested today for a customer as we make all sizes. I hope it is raining less in France than it is here!
