You can now see the cover and a selection of contents from the August issue on the Model Boats Website. New Editor Lindsey Amrani seems to have got off to a very good start. Lots of variety and featuring part 1 of a series by Nick Brown (RAFLaunches) on Mountfleet's LCM 6 kit.

A lot of people have worked very hard to get the magazine back and I hope the support of model boaters will keep it afloat.

Looking forward to my subscription copy dropping through the door soon.

Any idea when I can expect my next issue in my mailbox, over here is Texas, USA? %%
-
No, sorry. I have no connection with the print subscription distribution although I have been told that the digtal edition is now available to view online.
Colin
-
It is, but this was the first I have heard about it.
-
Well, it only happened about three hours ago...
Hopefully you will get an email soon. Why are people so negative?
Colin
-
Not being Negative, just stating the fact that the 1st place I heard about this was not by any communication from the publishers but here on Mayhem.
I subscribe to another mag from an old TV series, probably a lot less readers than MB and in a similar situation as MB, although they still have the same Editor, but have received very regular updates about what is happening, Regrettably I can not say the same for MB and I am not the only one.
I am glad the magazine has pulled through and is back in publication, long may it last and I wish the New Editor well and gets it back up there where it should be and look forward to the mag dropping on my floor, just hope I get to it before the Dog does.
-
You heard it from me because I had an internal update from MyTimeMedia in advance of the official notification and thought I was being helpful in posting it on here.
I think maybe things need to be put into perspective a bit. We are in the middle of a global pandemic which has wreaked havoc on much of our commerce and has left at least 45,000 people dead in the UK alone. Businesses are struggling to return to some form of normality and MTM is no exception. People have been furloughed and some have lost their jobs.
Instead I find people whingeing on here about the delayed publication of two issues of their magazine, they have lost nothing except a a few weeks delay. A number of people have put in a lot of effort to get Model Boats up and running again but it appears not to have been much appreciated.
I personally am down about £700 in lost holiday deposits I cannot recoup but that is the situation we are in and there is no point in dwelling on it. Times are tough so forgive me if I don't seem very sympathetic that you have had a two month delay in getting the next issue of Model Boats. For so very many people the effect of Convid-19 has been rather more serious.
Colin >>:-(

Not asked for any sympathy.

I think we should all be grateful that when so much of value is disappearing from our lives the dear old mag has made it through critical care.
-
Well said Colin. Times are tough. And don't anybody think its over yet. We have a long way to go yet. Before thing get better cheers John v

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that there doesn't need to be another break in production this winter (or sooner).
I am looking forward to the magazine much more than any other issue that I can remember!
I agree with Colin that there have been, and continue to be, much more serious things going on than a magazine.
-
I'm about 40k down on income because of co-vid which is not sustainable much more. Holidays -pff!!!!! Everyone is hurting!
I notice one copy of last issue re-appeared again on the shelf some weeks ago in my local Tesco Culloden. Also for the first time ever I saw same copy last week in Tesco Reading in Polmont -never seen a copy of MB there ever before!!
I can understand why folk with subscriptions are upset as it's money paid -but I always watch the modelboats forum for updates always which I presume is the correct place for the magazine and its contents.
I'm just so glad it's coming back though! I won't subscribe for a couple of reasons but I always buy a copy whenever I see it -as long as it's not in plastic bag or combined with another leaflet / unrelated magazine.
-
I understand, probably wrongly so I wait to be corrected, that the plastic bag and the extra free magazine are a Smith's only problem which arises because they demand the publisher does it if they want shelf space. Copies supplied elsewhere don't have the bag or the extra magazine. The difficulty around here is that Smith's is the only place that I can buy it.
-
I don't have any first hand knowledge but I would imagine that giving out free magazines as a promotion would probably be a financial step too far at the moment.

I have seen this before with WHS, what was the free Mag ?.
-
I was not suggesting that the plastic bag / free magazine was going to happen any time soon. It has only ever been occasionally.
The free magazines that I have seen attached to Model Boats were diecast collectors magazines.

MB arrived today, welcome back. Embarrassing typo on the cover though
-
{-) {-) {-) Yes noticed that straight away when the Front Cover was put out, but it happens.
-
Yes it’s unfortunate as I didn’t spot it until it was too late either and by the time I contacted Lindsey it was too late to stop the printing. She has spoken to Mountfleet to apologise for the error and I believe she said she was going to put an note in the next issue for the error.
Not a big issue but obviously she was annoyed for the error.
-
Maybe refer to her as Miss Pelt %)
-
Just one of those things and understandable when you get a new Editor with no previous model boating knowledge, no proper hanbdover and a tight schedule and budget. If that is all that is wrong then it is looking good.
Anyway, Nick's article is all OK inside so no harm done.

I see that Speedlines advert is still there....
-
I think it's an excellent issue. Nice mix of articles and good design. As the "shop window" for our hobby for most people, it's doing us a lot of good.
-
What, a typo? You'd think some people would be more bothered about their hobby magazine never reappearing. Plenty of others have disappeared and not come back.
