Title: Making new sails
Post by: Hurric123 on July 30, 2020, 12:09:52 pm
Hi all, I have 2 boats which I need new sails for. The first is an old award winning Thames Barge. The triangular front white sail has seen better days. It’s very dirty the material is rust streaked from the sewn in fittings and the material is shredding.
The other boat is a wooden planked large sort of rowing boat, it has mast and top and bottom spar. It looks like it had a single large square sail but there is no pattern. Both these models deserve a nice traditional rope edged cloth sail.
Can anybody recommend a good maker of these traditional type cloth sails. I could send or deliver the pattern of the Thames Barge and maybe the completer hull from the wowing type boat?

Thanks for your knowledge on this.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for the info. I have looked on the Nylet site and they certainly seem well capable of doing the job I need. I will give them a ring.
A couple of people at my club have said they know somebody as well so I will wait a little while to see if they come up with anybody else.
Regards
