Title: Axial SCX10 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon 1/10
Post by: Backerther on January 11, 2021, 02:50:59 am
Hi all;

I have been enjoying this car since last September when I got it.
Recently, I modified the transmission to two speed with the disassembly of the transmission.
It works well and runs much faster as seen in the following video.
This day,it ran 5.8kms on moderate terrain at my local river side. :embarrassed:

I made a minor modification to the transmitter as shown below, but it is very convenient to operate the car outdoors.
The modification is aimed at setting a shift switch holder unless it is,I have to keep the switch constantly in the two speed
driving.It is troublesome when doing so. %%

I attached a "fuel gauge" to the rear of the car by which I was able to confirm the battery conditions whenever necessary
at a glance while driving.! Very useful for me to drive the car for a long distance or other hard terrain. O0

Hi number-1;

Thanks a lot for your kind comment on my posting.! :embarrassed:
This car is a kind of artificial and practical dog to be able to run on the field together with me.
So "the dog"could follow me about  8kms for a walk the other day in one battery of 3S5000mAh lipo
with still keeping more capacity to run longer with no complaint against me.! %% {-)

Hi all;

I got a trailer to be towed by the jeep.
And I found it necessary to modify largely,,,,, :((

But,the trailer itself does not stand alone...Needs to be modified next,,, :((

Of course, not ! Chinese-made, but so inexpensive.
Instead, I have modified the trailer to suit my way of usage.

Hi all;
I made a support rod for the original trailer to let it sit on by itself.
An umbrella repair part played an important role for this modification work this time. %%
The two-wheel ready-made trailer does not sit on by itself when not in service.
This is retractable support rod.

to be continued..

As you go over rough ground and the trailer following is either still on the path or the rough terrain, how well does it pivot ? what angles can it get to, i.e. left and right up to and over 90 degrees as the hitching point is a rod through the cleat on the trailer vertically, but up and down what is the largest angles and the twist action where the truck is flat but the trailer is at say 45 degrees with one wheel on the track and the other on an incline?

 Hi Warspite;

Thanks for your so good questions to the point.! O0
This trailer will not go with the Rc crawlers at all on such rough terrains, as it will be completely  impossible to follow the crawlers in some cases.
I made this trailer to run with the crawlers only on good terrains like in the local parks or the riverside field.
Normally I do not carry the trailer in trail runs naturally.

I will use the trailer such as the following places in the pic1 through 4...

Hi all;

Today's pics are the number plate to get a scale realism as this is a kind of scale RC crawler.
But rear part of the car is occupied by the digital display unit of the voltage instead of the number plate...
This unit is much more useful for me to grasp the conditions of the battery when running in the field.

Hi all;

And I added a set of sound module like these to enjoy the an atmosphere as if a real car was running.
But to my regret,this is not proportional to the running speed which I think OK.
Because  I normally let it run so slowly together with my walking speed so that the speed is constantly slow,
by which the sound like idling speed in the module will do.  O0 {-) ♪~♬~♩~♫~(^^♪

I made a simulated exhaust muffler with twin pipes since the rear view of the car looked
terribly strange without these.!! :(( O0
The model Jeep Gladiator is truly electric -powered, while the real one is gas- powered.!! {-) O0
First of all,I designed the shape of the muffler of my own style regardless of the real one,

Hi all;

The front bumper guard was found partially damaged several days ago which I had made using Tamiya parts.
The damage I suppose may have been caused in the previous long distance cruising along the river and still remember
some suspicious cases like to get over the horizontal obstacles roughly over 10cm high and so on.
I decided to fully replace with another aluminum sturdy one found on the internet this time.

Hi all;
Here are the pics taken yesterday of a bike towing trailer with a Jeep Gladiator.
It's easy and interesting to do this on a good terrain, but troublesome to do on a long ,grassy and rocky terrains
which you may easily imagine why...What is worse,it takes more electric power so that I usually do not this towing mode
especially in a long distance run like I did yesterday.
The bike in the pics is Kawasaki KX250F for your information.!

Hi all;
It was really really hot day with air temperature 38 degree c(100 degrees F) at low mountainous area about 100miles north of Tokyo.
The place was selected this time for my 1/10 Jeep gladiator's trail run and it is also near the very famous hot springs.
I enjoyed the trail run ,dishes at the hotel as well as good bathing in the hot spring. :-)) :-)) O0 O0

I’d heard it’s been very hot in Japan last few days! Good to see you’re still motoring!

Hi all and Stuw,
It's been a very and very long time since I last posted here.
It's the very time to care for this Jeep Gladiator since it has been sleeping on its bed about 1.5 years..!!!   like your boats in the sheds ..?? {-)
Therefore, I have checked carefully for a long run to take place as the first in the past 1.5 years. :embarrassed: :D
No trouble was found at all in the function test in which 2-speed gear shifting that I installed after the purchase of
the RTR kit was the main point to take care about. :-)) :-)) :-))
Not only lipo batteries but also my body has been fully charged with as much as energy for the long cruising in the field.! :-))

Now, everything is OK and shall I go out somewhere to walk for a long run for my good health for my happy hobby life ?! :-))

Yeah, definitely - and the model is looking forward to the run too - look at those happy faces on the red towing shackles (photo 3)  {-) :-))

Cheers,

Ray.

Hi Ray,
Certainly Yes!  the parts really look red faces that I didn't notice at all.!!!!
They also appear smiling with swollen faces. {-)

Thanks for your interesting comment.

And I did a long walk for about 3 hours in a very large park 40km northeast of my home.
My wife also enjoyed the bird and plant observation sufficiently in a quiet park this day despite of a warm weather.
The Winter Sweet has begun to open already though it's not spring yet....

I shared a happy time with my wife and RC car for over half a day including driving a real car in a rural district. :-)) :-)) %%
I wonder how you usually share a happy and common time with your wife or partner and RC models...?? :embarrassed: :D {-)
