I have just obtained some plans to build an A class yacht. It is effectively built from long ply panels edged glued then taped etc. I have seen this used for smaller yachts and it works very well as you end up with a light weight hull with no formers to get in the way of fitting out.
The biggest issue on the A is to find ply wood to make the panels. Ideally, what I would be looking for would be 1.0mm -1.2mm ply in sheets about 2.4metres long. I can find 1.5mm at about 60" long at SLEC. Just wondered if anyone had come across anything else. I have been looking at firms who laser cut plywood to see if there is anyone who offers anything similar , as the designer supplied a set of .DXF files for the panels which is what I believe the cutters use.
Any leads would be of interest

Hi Spearfish99,
Your best bet would be to go to a good timber supplier.
The following all list 0.8 and 1.5mm birch ply in large sheets... typically 8ft x 4 ft or up to 1525 x 1525mm sizes.

Some of these may be able to supply bigger sheets.
There are many more listed in the UK on the net.
Hope this helps.

Could you not scarf short planks to make long ones?
