Hi there, have 2 models I have been working on since August last year now completed this one is the "Northern-Light" she was a Brunswick Heads based trawler from about 1962-63 when she was built by a Mr Jack Toyer for the Barnes family of Brunswick heads, she was 45' x 13' 10" x 4' 6" , the model is built on the scale of 1:16, from Ply, Tassy oak , Limewood, Beech & Bolly gum....cheers

Can't say I've ever heard of bolly gum :o is it similar to poplar by any chance?
Ray.
-
Hi there, suppose to be in the Mahogany family ?
-
It's an Australian native tree found mainly in NSW.
Peter.

Hi there, with both the models they have Tassy oak keel ,stem, deadwood and stringers , the frames are ply and the transom is laminated spotted gum and the ribs are Beech, the deck beams were a mixture of bolley gum and Tassy oak , the 2 lift out deck sections were made from beech ,as you can see from the side profile she had a fairly strait chine line, she had a bit of a greyhound shape typical of the trawlers constructed in the 1960's to early 70's then.
She was given a good coat of resin inside her hull then brushed with an oil based white undercoat, but sprayed the gloss coat.

Hi there, some more, the Beech beams in the lift out sections, then prior to having the 2 mm ply on raise deck area and the 1.5 mm on main deck prior to laying the strip decking. Installing the oil filler tube , sanding the hull down prior to a thin coat of varnish, and the last photo of the lift out deck sections, the servo holders and also the bases for the ESC and RX for both models..cheers :-))

Great Modelling as always Brian!
Its like you’re building the real thing. :-)) :-))
-
Thank you Dreadnought :-) , Ply and the limewood decking strips layed down along with the bullwark post in installed, then planking the bullwarks with Limewood planks as well. Cutting in top section of the post to allow the fitting of the capping side strips, then using my precision water line marker , cheers :-)) .....

Hi there, First photo framing around the winch base combing area just behind the w-house ,used 1.5 mm ply on the sides and top and 2mm on top of the winch coming base, the trawl gantries are deigned on how they were in the late 70's till late 80's as prior to this she had the traditional A bracket frames for towing single gear.....cheers :-))
-
That's stunning Brian :-)) As always with your work there's no filler just very tight, well made joints. Mind you you’re going to run out of room in your garage with all these boats {-)
-
Some fine! :-)) I really like the lines of the hull.Do you have any photos of the 1:1boats?
-
Thanks Mark T , yes that's the problem finding an area for them to live ,and the photo attached Chum444 is what she looks like ( well similar) didn't have sharp shots of her and not enough, cheers.
-
Hi there, first up making the small brass flanges for the feet of the hand railing around the raised deck area. Radar stand done and dusted then working on soldering the hand railing around the raised deck area. Giving a better idea of what she will look like with some of her gear pre fitted. Fitting the board racks ( trying not to light the boat up) and the completed board racks for both models. cheers. :-)) ...

Tx for the photo. I appreciate boats that are purposed to catch fish! Lines & proportions are pleasing to the eye.

Hi there, First photo of the life buoy holders for both models, trawl boards & prawn cookers for both models, at this stage in the early 1980's the boats had moved from towing 1 net (2 boards) to 3 nets (4 boards each), with the prawn cookers the "Northern-Light"s on the left was a diesel cooker and the "Beninda"s on the right was a LPG ( gas ) cooker...Now the tedious job of painting begins. The life buoys having the reflector tape and vinyl lettering attached , after I sprayed them with clear lacquer something didn't look right forgot the twine ( or rope ?) did this later...cheers :-)) ...

Morning, With the hull same deal, thin coat of Varnish then sanded, then she had 2 undercoats before spraying the bottom with her final coat, top sides had the 2 undercoats then 2 brushed gloss coats. With the motor as you can see had a reaction to the paintwork when I sprayed the clear acrylic laquer on it, the other models motor was worse had to strip it back and redo ,( the acrylic doesn't seem to like covering paints if they have been mixed ? ).Then 2nd best part putting her all together, cheers :-)) .
-
Hi , double one today, continued from previous post , cheers :-)) .
-
Wow that looks amazing :-))
-
Great result on a great looking boat. Well done.
-
Hi there thanks guys. Launched her on a stunning Sunday morning at the local model club at Ballina, she just needed 3 x 34 gram sinkers in her stern S.B quarter to sit her tail down about 1/4 inch and also to off set the Lipo battery on her Port side beside the motor, she didn't break any speed records but she looked the part, so pleased with her out come , thanks for viewing Cheers :-)) .....

Some of those shots you really couldn't tell between the real boat. Great job!
