You could always buy a £10 replacement USB keyboard.

Just make sure you write everything using words that don't use that letter - like I just did. :-))
-
If you have a keypad ALT067 gives capital C and ALT099 gives lower case c. Not ideal I know but it works.
If you have a compressed air source a gentle blow around the keys may sort anything stopping the key o depress (if that's the problem)
-
Does it print the Capital
Neither C or c work.
-
So contact isn't being made then when you press it. If cleaning doesn't help there is probably not much you can do. Google 'Laptop Keyboard Problems'.

What laptop is it (make and model)? I've had a couple of things go screwy before with some laptops. First rigmarole to go through is all the settings, update drivers etc. If that don't fix plug in an external one to check. I did have a button stick on an old VAIO once, would have been the best laptop I ever had if I didn't accidentally pick the button off and it would never go back on. Got the tiny bit of plastic out though. I lived with it for a cpl of years before buying new. Otherwise it would have been a new keyboard but not worth it on an old laptop if you just remember what key it is.
-
An external keyboard plugged into a USB port should work and determine whether the actual built in keyboard is the problem or "something else".
If it is just the c(C) and nothing else, it will either be the switch under the c key, or a bit of stray muck stopping it operating. Getting at it depends on the make and model. Some you can get the key top off easily for cleaning and refit it. Some you can't.
A google search for the make and model and "keyboard clean" might find a demo on YouTube.
If the search turns up a lot of replacement keyboards, that might be the way to go. Changing parts on laptops "can" be done, but I have been cursing the inventor of those printed ribbon cables that have a hidden clamp ever since they first appeared. The USB keyboard might be cheaper, if less convenient. I find a USB mouse easier to use than any trackpad.
Older laptops are generally easier to work on - the designers of later models had a lot longer to think of ways of making life difficult for service techs while at the same time making the things sleeker and cheaper to assemble.
Apart from that, what Martin said - "Caution!!!"

Replacing a keyboard is a routine job for a repair shop, it takes only a few minutes, and should not be too expensive. It is the kind of job I would trust to the back street repair shop as they will be cheaper and faster than PC World ('come back Tuesday, mate').
If the laptop is of lower value and not worth it, get a wireless keyboard and mouse set. Or if you want a full size keyboard (and cheaper yet) a plug in keyboard and wireless mouse. Unless I am working on the kitchen table (rare) I always use a remote keyboard, and I always use a wireless mouse.
I have relegated my old laptop to use wired to the TV. Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and Bluetooth headphones for those noisier TV shows and movies.

Thanks for all the Suggestions, but now the screen wont come alive.
Thanks again for all your help.
Len.

Hi Len, have you checked that the screen hasn't been accidentally dimmed? - it's just a thought....
Ray.

...........or pretty much any of the other screen settings such as pixel count or using an external monitor.
Settings then Display.

It might be thinking it's supposed to be using an external monitor - that isn't connected. Just plug a monitor into the laptop and see what it does.
-
Look for one of these .......

There is usually a whole bunch of forgotten control keys across the top of the keyboard. All have "self explanatory" symbols that someday I will understand. On mine F2 dims, F3 brightens, f4 toggles between the output selections and f5 does something involving a screen. Accidental pressing of any one can create lots of confusion. I don't know for sure, but these functions might only work for the native keyboard, not on a plugged-in one.

try remove the battery then refit might reboot something

Look online for the manual - it may clear everything up.
