Title: Can you identify this hull?

It appears to be a LARGE version of one I have seen before.
but I can not seem to name it.

60" long 15" Beam

I am contemplating doing something with it.

I don not recognize any MH&B model, this is not a proof :} never mind, this hull is absolutely beautiful and deseves a vertical boiler steam plant type Kingdon with a Stephenson 3 - 5 cm3 :-))

They are slimmer and a bit shorter.
I have a Topaz, and the Opal is in the same size range.

She may be from Loyalhanna Shipyards.
Mr.Zippy's example comes from there.
And if you can navigate their absolutely horrible website, there are
a couple of possible hulls.

This one is GRP with a very well finished interior.

I am still unsure if I will build her out. I have a couple of boilers,
and a new engine that might fit.

Just need to sell the two engines I have listed e-bay.
Hint-Hint

So it may have to wait until I finish my next one.

It is a Stuart Compound Twin.
I am about 1/3 of the way thru it.

(I am not sure why it is called "reversing gear" when there are no gears involved!) %)

Do these engines need additional work or mechanism to make it self starting? I think the steam go from the smaller high pressure cyl to the second larger lower pressure cylinder so the steam is used twice which makes it economic on steam but in effect it acts as a single cyl engine that if stopped at the top or bottom of the stroke means it’s unlikely to self start?

Your knowledge is correct, a compound can stop at the top or the botton of the HP cylinder. However, by playing with the Stephenson slide valve, it slightly shifts this breakpoint and the machine finally starts again.
Other possibility, on my triple expansion, I have added a secondary valve to inject steam in the MP cylinder and avoid the problem because I was told it was done on large steam machines : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPt0ouL8kzc

I was told the concept was called a "simpling valve" which can start the engine by
routing the steam to the LP (large) cylinder input and then get turned off after the rev-up.
It basically turns the engine into a twin cylinder - like Jerry's and then switches back to the
expansion process.

My build started on a Machinist Forum, I will probably finish it there.

I have Two boilers in stock right now.

Both are on the large side.
Both are from Mike Abbott at Maccsteam.

The first holds about 1 liter and I have been using on a D10. (just sold)
So I am going to mount it to a brass tray and add the new MB4 - quad cylinder.

The second hold about 1.5 liter, has dual burners, and has an operating pressure of 90 PSI.
I think this one will work well for the Compound. I will put it all on another tray so I can
swap the Steam plants in and out. Plus it will make the boat easier to move around.
