Title: Identification
Post by: TheLongBuild on September 04, 2021, 10:21:44 pm
Hi, Hope some of you may help out here with some Model Identifications.

Our
group have been passed a number of models which we sell by auction within the group, in this case 50% of the sale go to the groups funds and 50% to the RNLI. Some of the donated models like the Perkasa and the Schnelboot were quite easy to ID, but I am struggling with these, I assume pictures 1 & 2 are scratch built from Glynn Guest or similar plans but it would be nice to know which one. 3rd picture is a plastic hull so assume a kit , as is the 4th picture, Vac formed hull I think.

Thanks for any help.

The third picture looks like the Lindbergh Blue Devil destroyer.

The first one appears to be a Colony class cruiser. It looks like a simplified version of Glynn's HMS Tanganyika free plan published in April 2005 Model Boats.

4th pic is definitely HFM ORSV kit!

...could never afford one when they were about, can't buy one since, good money waiting! Hope they're not caught up with the end of speedline.

Thanks Colin

I am tempted to put in a bid myself for that one !!, it is quite rough but I would imagine would look fine as a stand off model, Looking at it closely today the Funnels are the cardboard from loo rolls.

Have to agree with Colin, if you squint a little you can see the "Tanganyika" cruiser plan.
As for the other one, squint even harder and you might see a suggestion of the "HMS Lagos" plan.

TheLongBuild,
                  A "perfect match".....?????

Do everyone a favour and only describe them as "based upon plans...."

The builder has done what is quite acceptable in taking a published plan and altering it significantly to suit their abilities and circumstances.  No one should find difficulty with that and it would avoid misleading any potential purchasers.

TheLongBuild,
A "perfect match" clearly means something different to me.  Probably due to working in areas where any chance of a misunderstanding can result in things getting expensive and/or people getting hurt.

I just didn't want anyone to buy these models and then find that their connections with these published plans was more tenuous than they thought.

To be honest looking at these photos more carefully and I get the impression that these models are larger than the plan sizes.

Hi Glynn

Very tongue in cheek, hence why I said I put my old glasses on and the Cheesy Grin Emoji..

Thanks again.
