Title: Bugsier tug
Post by: Stan on December 11, 2021, 06:33:47 pm
I recently obtained the above from a deceased member. On a closer look I decided to remove the old motor and fit a belt drive system. Time has played havoc with various fixings and most of the timber will need to be replaced. The hull has not had any primer applied so while working inside the hull paint on the outside has flaked off. More to follow.  :(( :(( :(( :(( :(( :((

Today the tiller arm was exposed by cutting a small hole in the deck. Also today the holes in the hull have been fixed using plastic card. The hull paintwork will have to be removed due to it flaking off in many places.

Hi Stan

I replaced the small rudder with a larger one because the old one had a very poor addon section.
Also added an oiler as well.

Replaced the short drive line with a longer one, also with an oiler.

Hi, I have to confess I have been building a Bugsier 3 for 20 odd years now!  I keep going off in other directions.  I have a Decaperm with gearbox as the drive motor this gives a low down output shaft.  I intend to fit a rotating  Kort nozzle in place of the kit rudder.
I look forward to seeing the refurbishment you are doing.
Best regards
Roy.

Fun you are not kidding now waiting for some paint remover from Expo tools. It looks like I will be fitting a new deck over the old one along with new timbers in the hull. A full suite of new electrics will be fitted along with a belt drive system and new prop from prop shop. <:( <:( <:( <:( <:( <:(

Hi Stan have you tried using aluminium pot cleaners with a little washing up liquid?  They work well and the ally 'sponge' is surprisingly gentle.
The hull is made of 'Plura' plastic and a little soft not sure about paint remover.

Last update for this year. The green paint on the deck has been removed and new timber hatch comings fitted. I intend to laminate a new plastic card deck over the old one. The first cardboard template can be seen this will be transferred to the plastic card.
