Anyone having problems sourcing 40mhz radios for a submarine should look at how this one was done on 2.4ghz , looks like it works fine , also a 1/48th scale Astute is 2.02m long........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3aFf77BcAU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3aFf77BcAU)

It only works if you keep the aerial above the surface. That limits your depth somewhat.

27 megs is the way to go. You have 6ft when above the boat, the depth tapering off the further you go away. Had my Type 7c on the local swimming pool. utterly fantastic in the clear water. You fly them like a bird. nemesis

Hobby grade 27mhz multi-channel R/C is even harder to find than 40mhz these days, as supply pretty much ended when 40mhz bands came into use in the mid to late '80's.
I have never had any range issues with 40mhz, and I doubt the extra 13mhz makes very much difference.

Bonjour,
I confirm, all the submariners I filmed use 27 MHZ radios, perhaps much more common yet in France.
