Hi all;
One happy day this time is an appreciation of various kinds of roses in a park,gathered from many foreign countries.
There were ,of course,many English roses planted in the park 90km away north from my home.
1;Oh No, not in Swiss {-) in Japan :-))
2;This rose is entitled by the English author "Liverpool remembers".
3/4/5;one happy time for today {-) %% O0 :embarrassed: %)
6;A honeybee was taking a breakfast on the rose seriously at around 10;30AM. {-)

Hi Kiyo,
that reminds me on my trip for some experiments at KEK in Tsukuba, 28yrs ago. A bit earlier in the year when many strees where full of cherry blossoms. Leaving the institute via the 'back-entrance' one was on a countryside similar to what you show. Quiet, calmly, nice, impressive, quite different to europe, very nice people (on the countryside not so many as in tokyo  {-) ) and good food. It where 3 weeks full of happy days! (2 weeks work and one week travel)
Having fun with your granchildreen will be always a happy day! :-)) And including a selfbuilt boat is even more happiness.
Best regards from hamburg (germany),Joerg

Hi JoJoElbe;
It's so nice to have your impressive comment on my One Happy Day. :D
At the same time I'm greatly surprised to know that you have ever worked at KEK in Tsukuba for some experiment. :o O0 :-)) The institute is very distinguished and one of the most advanced facilities in Japan in this field which you might specialise in. In this sense, I understand you may be one of the high level of scientists and engineers in this special technology. :-))

By the way,the place I visited yesterday was sooooo close to the Tsukuba, and located at the foot of Mt. Tsukuba in Ibaraki prefecture,formally designated" Ibaraki flower garden" where you might perhaps have been there already....??? O0

Hi all;
One happy day for me today is a boating of Revell 1/72 Snowberry. :-)) :-))
It was 33 degrees C outdoor temperature and very fine weather with actually no wind on our local lake,that means I have to go to the lake for RC boating. {-) {-) {-)
And I obeyed the self-determining "doctrine".
Anyhow VERY HAPPY DAY with my favorite RC ship sailing well. :-)) :-))

Hi Peter;
I'm so glad to have your beautiful comment this time too.!! :-))
Frankly speaking,I wish I were a little bit younger to do lots more in my RC life...such as to build more RC scale ships rather than RC boats.....However,it takes normally some years to complete such RC scale ships just like the real ones.. {-) O0
I've gotten too old to challenge the splendid RC ships as others in the forum are doing... {-) O0 <:( :embarrassed:

Hi Kiyo,don't worry about other ships, the love and enthusiasm + work you put in your ships is far better than anything someone else has.
I felt (meanwhile only seldom 'feel') similar about many projects I could reed about in various forums. I don't have the space, the machines, the skills (at least no professional ones) and for some examples not the money but I LOVE MY SHIPS!!!!  (as you do !!!)
I know so many people who build ships and after a while sell them because they have no space or need money. Everyone is different.Be proud of your ships and as you obviously enjoy your happy live there's always time for a new ship, just choose one you will love and manage in reasonable time.
Best, Joerg
Ps: I'm not even 60 and after the RNLI Lifeboat + boathouse and slipway I'm done with the big projects (as I think now  %) ) just will do a few smaller additional ideas which fit into my both concepts, the german Seenotretter pontoon an the RNLI slipway.  I will more try to enjoy the existing projects then.

Hi,nice, looks like 'de gamle by'  (the old town).  I remember back in 1994 the shopping mall in Tsukuba City had a 'german' restaurant named ELBE (the river up here in Hamburg, northern germany) unfortunately the beer and most of the food was all bavarian style (south germany). Didn't matter much because we were in a quite different (to us) country (most of us for the first time) and there we usually tried the local food and beer. Fortunately with "Kirin" or "Asahi" (easy for a Pentax camera owner) we didn't need any japanese or the waiter didn't need to understand our japanese.
Also the food was shown either as models or in a photo map. Only once there was none of them. So the bet was that the one who got the ugliest (for our taste!) food had to pay the bill. But overall it was fantastic food.
Best regards and have more nice trips!Joerg

Hi JoJoElbe;
I'm so glad to have your kind and impressive comment on my trip to the Andersen park in Japan.
With this experience of visiting the park,I have come to know much of the geography of Europe,especially around Danmark.
And I was so much impressed and surprised to know again that many countries are located in this area on the same continent, though I had known and studied the situations from the younger age and recalled the knowledge to life this time
concretely.... O0 :o :embarrassed:
One more impressed is that Odense in Danmark is comparatively close to Hamburg,some 200km away ? in direct distance.!!
In this sense,I felt it might be so convenient to enjoy sightings in the EU area. :-)) :-)) O0 {-)
My wife has been expecting to visit the Christmas season in Germany,especially the night scenes like in Stuttgart,Dresden along the river Elbe.!! %%

Hi Kyio,yes Denmark is not so far. And a few generations before (until 1864 i think) it was even around the corner, big parts of Schleswig-Holstein (between Hamburg and Denmark) and even Altona (a part of Hamburg now) were danish. My Grandparents had danish ancestors so I'm also kind of a quarter danish, I guess. But I don't speek a word... except: 'mange tak' = many thanks  ...  and for holidays, not yet, it's full of germans then.  {-) Best,Joerg

Hi all;
One happy day for the month for me is as follows.
Yes,I went to a certain mountain about 80 miles north of Tokyo to see and feel Nature in the mid-summer under the temperature 36 degrees C. But I did not feel too hot since mostly walking in the forest.
My wife is an ardent flower lover and the mountain has been famous for many kinds of plants among such flower lovers.
The followings are just some of pics taken at my favorite taste on the day except last one. %% O0

Hi all;
One happy day this time is assembling a Marui electric cordless drill that I bought about 8.5USD in a kit form.
This pla-mo kit of tool was first put into market about 4 decades ago and once I had one long time ago and nice impression
on that in those days. O0
This one is powerful for its image though powered with 4 AA batteries. At least it's enough for model ship building and other
Rc models generally.
It took about 3 hours to complete. :-)) :-)) :-))
By the way, I am just waiting for good days to paint my 1/32 MTB PT-109, however a giant and powerful typhoon is gradually approaching mainland Japan, by which influence it's been cloudy and rainy in these days continuously. {:-{ >>:-( <:(
"A watched pot never boils" is indeeeeed understandable, isn't it ...!!!?? >:-o {-) {:-{

That is interesting: as far as I know, tools which come in kit form are not a thing here in the US.
May that typhoon cause only minimal inconvenience for people.

Hi ScottW ;

A great thanks for your kind comment. :D
By the way, I still have a Sterling models USS Missouri in serviceable conditions and I ever visited real vessel at Hawaii. :embarrassed: :-))  I built this USS Missouri over 3 decades ago.
This 55 inch long hull model used to run very fast on the lake even at minimal level throttle at 6 volts due to her slender
contour of hull like the real one. L by D of the ship seems that of heavy cruiser of the days... O0

Is the Marui drill actually any good?    :-)
Title: Re: One happy day !
Post by: Backerther on September 02, 2022, 02:36:49 pm
Yes, indeed!
I used to use the same type up to over one decade ago and know it's so useful in actual modeling work up to 3.1mm diameter hole. I'll use the drill tomorrow for a modification to attach an air spoiler of my son's car.
I found this one in the Yahoo this time by chance. Marui already discontinued the production perhaps over 2 decades ago
and the company has been busy with the production of air-soft guns currently as a leading manufacturer in this field in the world. O0

Since I live in the state of Missouri it is both my personal pleasure and civic duty to like that ship!  :}

Back in 1980s when living in Virginia Beach, Virginia, I got to see BB-64 Wisconsin coming over the horizon in to Norfolk.
Handsome ship. Very handsome ship.

 Moulded gears would suggest any twist drill over 1/8" (3mm) may be pushing it.

Hi all.
One happy day for me this time is concerning a brand-new drill bit sharpener that I have bought recently at JPY8,720(USD 62.3) which I think is rather inexpensive for this class of function, that is able to sharpen the drill bits from 3.0mm through 13.0mm diameter.
Sharpening time is about 1 or 2 minutes at the longest each including a set-up time even for a beginner.
Therefore, I have sharpened close to 10 pieces of drill bits at a time that have been long left unused as they were dull.
It is so happy to do so as it was so easy and the bits were finely recovered their brilliant sharp edges. %%
The specifications of the sharpener indicated the diameter of drill bit from 3.0mm through 13.0mm, but I could have it possible to sharpen as far as 1.5mm diameter with some very simple jigs that anybody would easily imagine making them. :-))
1; main body of the sharpener
2: set-up equipment of the drill bit
3; chuck
4; overall view of the sharpener
5; Drill bits finely sharpened
6; Number of drill bits increased with this sharpener.!!  :-)) :-)) :-)) %% %% %%

It's sooo happy to sharpen the drill bits from today and could save my budget for the hobby as well.  :-)) :-)) :-))

Interesting and useful device. Wonder if such a thing exists here in the US?
There are a few drill bits here which need sharpening and have been set aside until I get around to (remember to) find out how to sharpen drill bits.

This kind of device is not unusual at all currently across the world that I'm sure there has been a lot of similar products
in the US.  O0    Anyhow, it's so convenient and happy to use it if available.
Soon after getting it, you could easily be a best craft man of sharpening the drill bits as you might be able to refurbish and resurrect them thoroughly in a minute or so.!!  :-)) {-) O0 %%  ♬~♪~♫~(^^♪

It is becoming less hot in these days gradually that has made me feel something autumn and also feel like boating at the
routine lakeside. For these reasons, I went to the boating site for the first time in a while for a prior observation.
The water of the lake was good enough to get the RC boats on it, very good for this season.   :-)) :-)) :-))
My PT-109 is supposed to apply color paints from next week and will be completely over in this month at the latest as RC gears has been installed already.  O0
1/2: Transparent enough for the RC boating for me with this level.
3: This is the boating area. Good surface to sail any boats and ships for me.   :-))
4: 3 Crows
5:Acorns
6/7: Red spider lilies....one of my favorite flowers.!!  Looks so nice if seen along the roadside as if she were cheering up
someone doing something like a running.   {-) %% :-))  I used to feel like that when running.  O0
True autumn for a happy boating will come in the October at the latest when will supply me with lots of happy days. ! :-))

One happy day this time is walking around a certain flower garden about 140km (87.5 miles) northwest of Tokyo to appreciate the early autumn.
My wife is a flower lover and I 'm a walking lover with a RC car, that has come to naturally go to countryside to satisfy
simultaneously both favorites.  :-)) %%

It's in the midst of autumn here in Japan and I went to low mountains for trekking in fallen leaves 90 km north of Tokyo.
Everything I saw had turned to colorful scenes with such leaves unlike summer season and calm,in such circumstances I walked with my reliable partner of Jeep Wrangler 1/10 for 7.4km(4.6 miles)

I went to a certain urban, grand park to enjoy and feel the autumn together with my 1/10 Jeep Gladiator, where once was a US installation for the civilian military.
Everything in the park in this weekday was so calm and a bit cold to let us feel in the mid-autumn even in the urban area.  :-))

1; Very large park
2; one of "the autumn" {-)  Rich in the nature...
3/4; Running in the autumn slowly unlike my 1/32 PT109 on the water. {-) {-) {-)
5; the driver of the Jeep !
6; We happened to meet some little "RC car enthusiasts?" accompanied by their mothers.
    The mothers said "no touching it ! ", but the naughty children neglected such a warning completely and continued to touch the wind shield wipers, front/side windows and snow boards without any hesitation at all..... :-X {-) %% :o
7; And happed to find my favorite Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited.

Walking distance this time was as so short as less than 5km(3.1 miles). :-X

One happy day this time is a bit long walk close to 6.7km(4.2 miles) round trip with my 1/10 RC car like a jeep Cherokee.
On the way, I came across an amateur marathon race taken place along the bank of a large river dividing Tokyo and its neighboring prefecture. I also am a marathon runner for 10 years up to now though now in off the activity due to some reasons. But watching the race from the bank, I just felt like re-starting again the training of run to attend such races seriously though I have passed 70 years of age some years before...but I will perhaps do that from next year again.  :embarrassed: :D
Well then, back to the theme for today....

1; a small river located 7minutes' walk from home
2/3/4; So many runners(roughly over 10,000 and more at least) seemed to have attended the race.!!
5; Down the bank
6; After watching the marathon race while taking the lunch, a happy-go-lucky couple took a coffee break at a shop on the way home... {-) %%
7; The walking (not running) result for today....6.74km round trip.....

It was very very fine day thanks to warm, partially hot temperature for this season of spring here in Japan.
The temperature around our local district reached around 25 degrees C by which cherry blossom became in full bloom.!! O0 :-))
A cherry blossom is highly sensitive to the temperature and reacted so quickly to it yesterday.
So many people came out to our local large park to enjoy the cherry now in full bloom different from the previous day.!!
As you may possibly know, a Japanese is abnormally, exceedingly, extremely and extraordinarily loves the cherry blossom. {-)
In such circumstances, I also went to the park to see how the people enjoys the cherry blossom under the cherry trees. %%

The people in the pics may seem to prefer drinking and eating to enjoying the cherry, mayn't they...??? {-) O0 :embarrassed:
Enjoy the Japanese cherry blossom sufficiently by these pics at your room.!!!! :-)) :-)) :-))
I wonder how you would enjoy the spring coming around you warmly....??? :} :-))

Thank you Martin for an interesting video of the cherry blossom of Japan that represented vivid scenes and impressions of
the cherry blossom of Japan. :-)

I suppose JoJoElbe must have known very much of the blossom through staying in Japan for a certain experiments.
Please remember Japan when you see the cherry in every spring. :embarrassed:

However,!!! the cherry blossom around my home already has started to fall piece by piece slowly... <:( <:( <:( {:-{
To make the matter worse, it will be rainy tomorrow by which much of the blossom will fall to the wet ground where might
be covered with a huge amount of petals.... <:( <:( <:(

See you again cherry blossom ! in next spring...Thanks a lot for this year O0 :-))   !!!

Don't worry I do. I bought a knife  (from a hawker) on a flea market in Kyoto in 1994, basic steel, still works perfect and sharp in my kitchen.I even have one of those old glass bottles with the ball inside to close it under pressure.

... and besides, I have a colleague the next room who is half japanese (but lifes in germany almost all his life).Best,Joerg

It is still so sharp and great enough to clip my so hard the foot nails easily. I have been using it more than 36 years. O0 O0 :-))

Hi all,
It's a very hot day reaching 35 degrees C but fine with breeze here at my town in Tokyo.
I am living near a shrine with an approach roughly over 100 yards and a bit lively here today unlike usual days...
It's the festival day based on the Shintoism in the town and a small parade was carried out here bustlingly.
A parade was composed of a drum carriage towed by many children and two miniature shrines in which one is supported by children while by adult.
The supporters of the miniature shrines were shouting loudly and repeatedly "wasshoy!, wasshoy!, wasshoy!..."under the leader's control who was also blowing a whistle like "pi'ppi,pi'ppi,pi'ppi..."lively to conduct the wasshoy in front of the shrine. :embarrassed:
Ahead of the miniature shrines, a tiny drum carriage was being towed by many children accompanied by their parents pulling the rope. The parade stops at several points to take rest for some time when many children were gifted some foods and drinks that were their final aims, needless to say. {-)

This kind of scenes are normally seen at many towns across the country in August and September.
This kind of scene, regardless of the scales, is one of typical traditions in Japan's autumn. :embarrassed: O0

Thanks for your comment.!! :-))

1; The "conductor"is doing his job as blowing cheerfully the whisle"pi'ppi pi'ppi pi'ppi..."
2/3; In the intervals of the parade, the children soon went to the festival staffs to get foods and drinks cheerfully.. :-)) %%
After the parade to spend normally about 4 hours or so, children mostly with their mothers left there with large pouches on their hands full of foods and drinks. {-)
This was the really happy day for everyone, wasn't it..?? {-) O0

Today is the national holiday to respect the old. O0 :-))
