Many of us are getting a bit long in the tooth these days so how about sharing a few favourite songs from way back.

One of my all time favourites is The Living Years, by Mike and the Mechanics. Otherwise, anything by Peter Paul & Mary, Electric Light Orchestra, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, or The Righteous Brothers. On a classical note, Rossini overtures, such as William Tell, The Thieving Magpie, and An Italian Girl in Algiers.

Once again, The Seekers. They were all the rage when we emigrated from U.K.
-
Yes, definitely The Seekers, how did I forget them? O0
Peter.
-
Pretty sure, Tom Springfield [elder brother of Dusty] wrote the majority of the Seekers' international hits O0
-
Tom Springfield wrote some, but Bruce Woodley was the main songwriter as far as I’m aware.

Mike and his two current Mechanics are still on the road and due to play at our local town Guildford next May by which time I suspect the favourite song will be 'All I Need is a Miracle!'
We saw them a few years back at Brighton. - excellent.

Some old rockers are like a certain brand of batteries, they just keep going and going and going :-)

Yes, Justin Hayward once commented the Sixties Stars were built to last.... He's still touring too.

Well Colin, as you say many of us are getting longer in the tooth. Myself, I'm in my mid-60's, and must confess to a penchant for the songs of the deeply uncool Neil Diamond.
Sweet Caroline was a favourite of mine till it was adopted by England football fans, still there's always Cracklin' Rosie, Beautiful Noise, and America.
Cheers,
Mike

Neil Diamond is a top class singer/songwriter although semi retired now and no longer performing.
Some great songs.

Dorking Halls 9th Sept.
ERIC and the Claptones tribute band to you know who ! used to live in this neck of the woods when a youngster.
-
Many years ago now, Mrs B and I used to get invitations to the charity Christmas concerts at Chiddingfold Village Hall, Surrey which featured Eric Clapton, Andy Fairweather Low and the late Gary Brooker of Procul Harum. Henry Spinetti, the well known session player, was on drums.
Wonderful line up in a rural setting.
Eric used to mix in the bar afterwards. Funnily enough Eric used to live in Ripley, Surrey, a stone's throw from where my eldest daughter currently has a flat.

Myself, I'm in my mid-60's, and must confess to a penchant for the songs of the deeply uncool Neil Diamond.
I saw Neil Diamond live in Brisbane many years ago, and I still love his music. I’m in my mid eighties, and remember when Al Jolson and Bing Crosby were big names, closely followed by Frank Sinatra etc :o . I’m definitely not a fan of some of the so called music one hears emanating from clubs and some pubs nowadays, it’s more noise than music but, I suppose it’s a generational thing. Give me the 60s music any day.

So Peter says ........."Tom Springfield wrote some, but Bruce Woodley was the main songwriter as far as I’m aware."
No, not the case Peter......as I had earlier suggested, and Google confirms ................
'Tom [Springfield] wrote The Seekers biggest hits Georgy Girl, The Carnival Is Over, I'll Never Find Another You and A World of Our Own, earning him the unofficial title of the "fifth Seeker".

Yes, you’re quite right Derek. I read, on Google, that the group’s main songwriter was Bruce Woodley, but that may have meant that of the four members, he wrote more of their songs than the other three.

"Don't jump off the roof Dad" Tommy Cooper.
