At the Dean’s Marine Open Day in September our fellow forum member and model boat nut John V presented an award for Outstanding Contribution to Model Boating to our Mayhem Martin. Martin is a very quiet person liking to stay out of the limelight but this was a worthy award for his dedication and commitment to the hobby of model boats. :-))

"Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking, you know me, never seen in public when there's a parole office in the area.
As I struggle to pretend to be humble, this award shows that hard work, huge investment, bribes & threats from the Mob,
do pay off in the end.
The Moderators had a bit of trouble finding someone to make a speech in my behalf.
They started by asking their funniest friend, and he said no.
Then they asked their most charming friend, and they said no.
After that, they asked their best-looking friend and, again, they said no.
Then they asked me to do it myself, and, after already turning them down three times, I couldn't refuse again.
But they did give me some great advice, they said 'Don't try to be too charming, witty or intellectual... just be yourself!'
All of us gathered together on this Forum, we've got something really important in common, we all disagree on the orientation
of props on a dual shaft boat! But we do agree that some of the best RC boats in the world have been built by members of this
Illustrious Forum, from plans, from scratch, from kits or like me, from eBay and passed of as my own!
We build boats for various reason, and this Forum has become our library, university, hidy-hole, pub & emotional &
mental therapy support group for quite a few of us. I for one, never imagined that I would come to know such a friendly,
knowledgable bunch of crooks great people in all my life ... and just by building model boats and starting a Forum,
thank all of you Ladies & Gentlemen.
Can everyone hear me OK? If you can't hear me in the back, the silence from the people at the front should reassure you
that you're not missing anything. There have been quite a few requested that I don't share any embarrassing stories...
so that's it from me! Thanks for listening!
I do accept this Oscar on behalf of myself and the whole cast and crew of this great film."
