Title: HMS Phoebe/Hero
Post by: Rob47 on November 04, 2022, 05:35:57 pm
A few shots of my Phobe/Hero build, coming on nicely but getting cold in the dockyard. The wires hanging from foremast are for lights and radar, the hangar roller door is coming on and hopefully work, making it was easier than I thought, just need to find a cunning method of getting down, up is ok  {-)

Well 8 months into this build and here is where I am, all motors fitted, ballast test done, electrics fitted and all LED in place. now starting the finer details, I think this will be a good model to sail.

Arghhhhh
just done what I thought was good job following the Jecobin plans for the spurnwater, then on browsing my shots of Phoebe I took at Den Helder It hit me, the plans are wrong :(  so today has been very sharp chisel tapping it all off, thankfully no damage and its now much easier to replace.
Moral if you have the real vessel images, go by that.

Hero/Pheebs is looking lovely Rob. I am glad that your rework wasn't to damaging considering the mention of a chisel!

No you are correct, I was not bothered about rotation direction, as it was trying to get the RPM spot on or as near as possible.  Once it is fitted and hard wired then all will be correct.

At last after many false starts my Leander now has fully functional roller hangar door.
made from plastic strips backed by tape to create flexible join.
Winced up and down by micro motor with right angle gear box rotating at 18rpm
The plastic card box is a slip in module that once in the hangar recess can not be seen as plastic card, this facilitates removal for any repairs.

Nice Rob, I’d wished I’d got my hanger doors working on Roosevelt, but unlike you I did not start working on my method until it was to late in the build.

Just need to replicate my helicopter mag track to have the helo move in and out :-))

Today HMS Phoebe/Hero had her maiden basin trials, and pleased to say she flew through it, with no issues, only a gentle touch on the throttles and she sailed a dream.

She'll be as stunning as the real thing, nothing beats the look of a Leander on the water - looking forward to further updates, keep up the good work (I hope it will give me the much-needed impetus to finish my model of HMS Argonaut !).

Very graceful like the real class Rob. Was the sloping section of F'ocsle considered a failure or success? While making it easier to access the bows for casting off etc a slope in rough weather must have been more troublesome (assuming it was worked on in anything but a calm of course!)

Due to the icy conditions in the garage not a lot done, but slightly warmer weather has allowed work to restart on the superstructure.  Now trying to work out the best way to make a tiny urinal for this area  {-)

Yes Chris she a few others played Hero hence the title. One side of the model will say Phoebe and the other Hero.  Just to wind the rivet counters up. I was on her when she returned after the Pipa Alpha disaster.
