A few shots of my Phobe/Hero build, coming on nicely but getting cold in the dockyard. The wires hanging from foremast are for lights and radar, the hangar roller door is coming on and hopefully work, making it was easier than I thought, just need to find a cunning method of getting down, up is ok {-)

Well 8 months into this build and here is where I am, all motors fitted, ballast test done, electrics fitted and all LED in place. now starting the finer details, I think this will be a good model to sail.

Hi Bob
She looks every part a Leander and the ‘hero’ of the series. Keep up the excellent work :-))
-
HI Bob she's lookin good an i see you have a nice little wasp chopper on the flightdeck that will look good when she is sailin an i see you have fitted on your red A/C Light's on the mast top great stuff an i also see you have bought some dapol model railway figures for the crew members as i also bought these as they are very detailed figures an easy to convert to sailors as they will bring your model to life i find an people often remark sayin oh love the crew figures as its a giude to how big the ship is when my NORFOLK is on show at the pond well happy sailin

Hi Chris
Thanks, quite please with it so far, btw not dapol figures, to tight to buy those they are 1/72 Architects figures about £2 for a 100 :) much better and not mnay needed as she will have a few on the bidge and thats it, no figures lounging on deck
must be launch date for the big cat soon.
Bob

Arghhhhh
just done what I thought was good job following the Jecobin plans for the spurnwater, then on browsing my shots of Phoebe I took at Den Helder It hit me, the plans are wrong :( so today has been very sharp chisel tapping it all off, thankfully no damage and its now much easier to replace.
Moral if you have the real vessel images, go by that.

What a cheeky sod Chris. I hope you can prosecute him for the theft of your identity etc.
Hero/Pheebs is looking lovely Rob. I am glad that your rework wasn't to damaging considering the mention of a chisel!

Hi Bob,
Your build is coming along nicely :-))
Tried to view the you tube but it’s marked as Private so you can’t view it.
-
Dave
Whoops, that's because i posted while still as a draft, should be ok now
Bob

Looking the part, well done. Pretty slow speed compared to the 967/968 aerial on the Type 22's come to think of it.....
Eric

Bugg*r the actual scale speed >>:-( ...............that 967/968 radar speed looks very impressive :-)) ........ Derek

HI Bob just just looked at your radar an isnt it goin the wrong way as i thought all radars go clockwise or am i wrong ? hope you are well
chrisb
-
Chris
No you are correct, I was not bothered about rotation direction, as it was trying to get the RPM spot on or as near as possible. Once it is fitted and hard wired then all will be correct.
Bob
-
HI Bob oh ok just thought i may have radar rotaion wrong but yes all you have to do is swop round the wires on the motor an then the right way hope you are well
chrisb :-))
-
A lovely job sir.
-
HI Bob can you put on some overall pics of your ship as i cant remember what she was like
chrisb :-))
-
Chris loads of shots of her on this thread

At last after many false starts my Leander now has fully functional roller hangar door.
made from plastic strips backed by tape to create flexible join.
Winced up and down by micro motor with right angle gear box rotating at 18rpm
The plastic card box is a slip in module that once in the hangar recess can not be seen as plastic card, this facilitates removal for any repairs.

WELL DONE Bob on your roller shutter door looks very good

It looks great, isn't noisy or glitchy either, top job Rob!
-
Nice Rob, I’d wished I’d got my hanger doors working on Roosevelt, but unlike you I did not start working on my method until it was to late in the build.
Just need to replicate my helicopter mag track to have the helo move in and out :-))

c bit of vid showing continuing work on HMS Phoebe/Hero, decks secured and all electric working including the lighting, which had many wires, so very pleased so far

I understand the reference to Hero now! I have been watching episodes on YouTube and its quite good!
Thanks for the video, she's coming along super.
-
Today HMS Phoebe/Hero had her maiden basin trials, and pleased to say she flew through it, with no issues, only a gentle touch on the throttles and she sailed a dream.

She'll be as stunning as the real thing, nothing beats the look of a Leander on the water - looking forward to further updates, keep up the good work (I hope it will give me the much-needed impetus to finish my model of HMS Argonaut !).
E
-
Rob,
Pleased for you that she flew through her sea trails. :-)) :-))
Door workings looks good :-))
-
Very graceful like the real class Rob. Was the sloping section of F'ocsle considered a failure or success? While making it easier to access the bows for casting off etc a slope in rough weather must have been more troublesome (assuming it was worked on in anything but a calm of course!)
-
Due to the icy conditions in the garage not a lot done, but slightly warmer weather has allowed work to restart on the superstructure. Now trying to work out the best way to make a tiny urinal for this area {-)

SHE LOOKS REALLY GOOD Bob as she was hms hero in warship wasnt she ? brilliant model
chrisb :-))

Yes Chris she a few others played Hero hence the title. One side of the model will say Phoebe and the other Hero. Just to wind the rivet counters up. I was on her when she returned after the Pipa Alpha disaster.
