I stumbles across this video for a really useful modelling material, that I had never hear of, called Sintra PVC. Video link below.
It is used a lot for Scifi movie models.
Are any modellers using it, I wonder.

That is a brand name. Genetically we call it P V C foamboard. It is widely used for things like the advertising boards that you see outside shops.

I have used 1.5mm to build a select superstructure. And 6mm to build a
hopper for barges, a grain elevator silo, and a small table top pond.

Foam board and foamtex has been on the go for years...... I have been using it since late 70's early 80's.... had a friend that worked in a local sign making factory.... I was able to aquire quantities of off cuts , various sizes , colours and thicknesses up to 10mm. It was very easy to work with. The down side being that due to the textured surface it required a bit of work to get smooth surface for painting.

I've been using this stuff for a few years now for building superstructures in 5/6mm thickness then covering it in either super thin styrene or 1/32 ply. I get mine from the local signwriting company its called Foamex here in UK, I buy the offcuts, really easy to cut with a Stanley knife and the bonus is it weighs nothing and floats. Cut it square and glue it using superglue bingo, it's also quite strong and rigid if you are using it for a high superstructure such as the Norton Cross tug (not top heavy etc). I would have put some pics of the method but being useless at loading them no joy.
Hope this helps,
Cheers, Pete :-)) :-)) :-))

I also noticed in the video that it can be carved, which would make it ideal for some detail work, like making wooden fish boxes.

Sintra is the trade name. PVC foam board is available from numerous manufacturers. It is available with a smooth surface. It is paint ready and LOVES cyanoacrylic glue.Another great advantage is it's light weight. Wonderful for superstructures on weight sensitive models.
