%) Ok folks well I have so far had no leads for drawings for Swiss lake paddle wheelers, BUT can anyone direct me to plans for self feathering paddle wheel designs that I might build . There is nothing very definitive that I can find on the web.ThanksRayna

Rayna.........not sure which WEB you are searching, :o .
...,but a simple question using your words 'plans for self feathering paddle wheel designs' will yield many pages on the subject
Again, if you ask "model Swiss Lake paddlesteam ships" you will find the specialist WEB site for paddlers = www.paddleducks.co.uk (http://www.paddleducks.co.uk) ;D
If your WEB searches do not reveal the above, >>:-( I would be searching for an alternate WEB provider :P

Hi Derek,Yes thanks I have seen all of what you show but unfortunately not one gives me a clear understanding of the movements of the main paddle blade support rim (A) which holds the paddles with pivot points with respect to the crank offset ring (B) on which the paddle link arms are fitted which controls the positioning of the blades of the paddles as they rotate. Even the Videos for me are not definitive. I looks as if both (A) and (B) rotate at the same speed in the same direction. I note that one design shows that one of the link arms does not rotate on a pin at the crank (B) but only at the blade pivot while all the other blades are pivoted at each end of the arm. So if i cannot get anything clarifying things that is what I will test out with a card mock up next. Puddleducks has some pics of the Swiss boats but not what I was hoping for. Having said that I can probably locate the ferry company and try there, as even the photos give a fair bit of detail, and the beam is significant and indicated on their logo
Cheers and thank you.Rayna

A 3d printable design. Even if you do not have a printer you can view the stl's and make the parts from stock material if you prefer.

Rayna........that first link somewhere takes you to Model & Allied Publications where a number of manufacturing Plans sets are offered for sale .................Derek
PS...I have only shown a part assembly without dimensions, as I believe manufacturing Plan sets from MAP are still under Copyright

Hi Rayna,
I hit the "how does it work" problem with a weird Victorian propellor and ended up making a dummy out of cardboard and cocktail sticks just to get the feel of the mechanics. Could work for you?

This video is useful in demonstrating the mechanism. The most detailed model drawings available seem to be the Chiftain ones mentioned above by John.
