Hello, I have been a French model maker for 33 years. I've started to build the Conakry contenairship at the beginning of the year. I am having trouble finding plans from the shipyard, so I've decided to draw my own plans of the ship. I am currently collecting every pictures that I can find on the internet in order to redraw the plans.
My model is built to scale 1/100. It is 249cm long and 37,4cm wide.

The curve of the hull did not please me.It didn't conform to the photos.I recut the front. I redrew the plans and resumed the shape of the hull.

To make the exact shape of the bow, I first make a guide then Cut and glue all of my slats resting on the guide. Then grinding and sanding.

I present to you the construction of the cabin. Everything is in 3mm CTP. You can see the swimming pool appear the left of the cabin. I'm building all the main blocks after which I'll do the details. I only work with photos . The exact dimensions of the contenairs allow me to determine the dimensions of all the structures of the boat. Lots of calculs are necessary.

Hello Kent I only work with photos. Neither Maersk nor the shipyards gave me plans.I also found videos of sailors sailing on the Maersk CUANZA the same ship.

I could only find one other image of the MV Maersk Cubango [sister to Conakry] where she was semi-loaded, but with no containers over her stern quarter-deck

However it would certainly be a pity to hide all of your detailed stern winch gear under stacked containers

Will the mould be of a block of containers to have the inside empty to save weight as solid resin containers will be a lot of top weight?

Just thinking out of the box.
If you mold stacks of containers, that will save weight, but the chances of the walls bending over time is higher.
If you printed stacks of containers, you could print internal supports to keep everything straight.

Hello, I have started the construction of 1200 containers. I made all 6 sides. The measurements of a 40 foot container are L12.2cm l2.4cm h2, 9cm or 2.6cm. I have built several container models. Afterwards I built compartments. I filled my molds with blue liquid silicone. After 10 molds of each shape I filled them with epoxy resin.

here are some pictures of my brand new containers that I've molded and assembled myself. When you look for containers on the internet, you can only find 1/87 scale containers but mine are 1/100.

I am currently looking for a way to add transfer printing on my container. Does any of you have an idea on how to do this ? I would like to "create" the Maersk, Hamburg Sud, CMACGM, MCO, P&O, Safmarine logos.

Aren't container decals available for those company names?


I know they are in more usual scales, such as HO & N Gauge railway scales, but some suppliers also do them in other, more varied scales too.

I've had custom water-slide decals made in the past from Bedlam Creations in the US. I'm sure there is someone similar closer to you.
They can print just about any colour, including white.
You can gang up quite a few logos on an A4 sheet, although those ridges could be a problem. How many containers will need logos? Not all 1200.

Wouldn't it be easier to paint them once they're assembled? As it is you'll have to scrape the paint off the joints before you glue them together surely?

I decided to rename this model ship MAERSK CUANZA because it was with the most photos from the CUANZA that I made my model

Hello yes the next step is to put it on the water. I’m thinking about modifying my car and building a box. I Will make a new you tube video for the trial on the water.
