Title: information needed !
Post by: KBIO on June 13, 2023, 10:40:14 am
Hello !
A long time ago , I've bought this engine to a good fellow that everyone knows in our Steam world ;  I named Giovanni !
(Giovanni , if you read me from your Costa Rica new homeland...  :-) )
He told me the name of the manufacturer who (is or) was in Germany , if I remember well ! But my memory and my lack of organization makes me forget who manufactured this engine.
Is it a ''W'' or a returned ''M'' on the sliding sleeve box's cover ???
Who can tell ??
If someone knows, please , tell us more !
Thanks !

Hi, a couple of years ago I was shown a similar engine, I was told by a friend that its a Wada Works engine and that the cylinder covers were turned upside down, so rather than them being seen as W, they became M because the German dealer that sold them name was Metafot. Hopefully, Giovanni, if he is looking in will be able to add more to the story

Good morning !
Thanks Dave ! Your comment sounds right ! I've heard such a story with match with yours and a German friend tell asomething similar on the Forum.!
Since, I do not understand why reversing the ''W'' to make think 'Metafot' .
Strange attitude ! %)
Have a good day !

That is correct :-)

Very nice engine, by the way. Do you run it ?

Bonjour,
Would this mean that this sream machine is also a Wada Works : https://youtu.be/CTVJ8Z72LuQ (https://youtu.be/CTVJ8Z72LuQ) ?

Based on a shared information, Wada is made by Metafot (Lutz Hielscher) in Wuppertal.

Bert...after a time here, you will realise   %)   we have Poms, Frogs, Oz people  & a few others ..... & now a Dutchie  {-)  posting interesting steam issues

So to answer your question?, you may not necessarily get a logical answer.......

But it is all in jest and good fun :P

That makes me wonder if I am the only Dutchy here? Say it ain't so?

Anyway, it indeed was just a bit of a joke (although I can seriously not imagine selling a steam engine), let's not pollute the thread further.
I am sure we have a humor section in this forum?

Hello !
Don't worry Brutus, we are all open minded over here !
The reason why some are selling ???
Maybe time to clear the shelves as after me , no-one in the family is interested in steam .....  {:-{  and faced to everyone problem in our hobby : what is next ?? Junkyard ?
Below just a corner of  the barn accumulation through the years !

To me, that's an easy one: No engine or installation is ever "finished"... there always is room for improvement. So anything that gets shelved, at some point in time is going to get pulled off that shelf whenever I have another silly idea that might or might not work.

I never know what that idea might be. Heck, only 4 months ago or so in a wild guess, I bought this steam plant of mine, and I had no other plans for it than to run it, put it in a simple boat, and be done with it.
The "and be done with it" part never happened... Spent three months of continuous messing about, just a week ago I thought I improved everything there was to improve, but as I type this, I am again improving things and extending the installation.

By the way, that is an impressive and beautiful collection of engines and installations you have there. Hats off to you, sir.

Grazie Snekeasy! Questa è una notizia terribilmente triste per tutti noi!
Thanks Sneakeasy ! This a very sad new for all of us. Giovanni was a great steamer dedicated to our small world . He will be missing to all the friends he has all over the world. He was very well known for his knowledges and the history of model steam. Always kind to share.
Really , he will miss us.
R.I.P my great friend and a movie thought for his wife and his daughter.

Hi Yves,

I too have corresponded with Giovanni over the years when he was quite active on the forum and wondered what had happened to him.
I know that his daughter moved to South America and then his wife moved to be with her daughter.

I do know that as Giovanni was a Chartered Architect and his office was owned by his wife who basically sold it from under him as was told to me by Giovanni.
It was after this that my Mac broke down and as it was too expensive to replace I lost a lot of info and had to buy an other P.C ( H.P.). His details were one of the many Losses.

Giovanni at one time was the sole agent for Stuart Turner in Europe and when he gave it up he sold me many casting sets for the Vertical steam engines  and the Steam boiler feed pumps, in exchange for building a small high pressure boiler and quite a few fittings, it was after my Mac crashed that I lost the info.

He will be sadly missed as he was a font of knowledge regarding steam engines, If I remember, his Surname was Sorrentino ?

RIP Giovanni

George.

Bonjour,
Giovanni was a great passionate and we shared good moments last times I saw him at Atlantica :
His tests for the Anton Trophy : https://youtu.be/0hLqMvi54n4 (https://youtu.be/0hLqMvi54n4)
His last purchase : https://youtu.be/RZVi7gNsi20 (https://youtu.be/RZVi7gNsi20)
And I was lucky because he was fluent French  :-))
