No.
This is how 3-phase motors or transformers do it.

You can use a thermistor to trigger an esc into shutting down if you are against using a main supply fuse.

If the idea is to use it to protect if the motor is stalled then it is not needed. I have tested a brushless motor using a wattmeter to measure the current and found that when the motor is stalled the current drops to near zero. As the esc uses feedback from the motors rotation to switch between the phases when the motor is stalled the esc sees zero rotation regardless of its output so the processor stops.
