Title: Decals

Has any member any advice on where to source 1/48 water slide decals, RN pennant numbers, depth markings, tried BECC but was not impressed. It appears you can find decals for a Nigerian Mk10 Spitfire but very little suitable for boats.

You can create precisely what you want as a .pdf file then send the file to this chap:

http://www.precisionlabels.com/ (http://www.precisionlabels.com/)

I found it easier to do it in Word first then, when I was happy with the spacing, layout, shape etc. convert the final file to a .pdf file.

He will then print them off for you onto decal paper.  They are very thin but very good quality decals.  You arrange the items yourself to make the most of available space and condense the items as much as possible.  He will print a half size A4 sheet if you can squeeze them into that, more for more colours.

I tried BECC for 1/48th draught marks but they were too thick and the edge remained visible even after clear coating.  The decals I made perfectly fitted the line of the hull, and the depth spacing, in a single piece, settled perfectly and the backing was invisible once coated.

As you also want 1/48th I might still have the original file somewhere if you send me a PM.

Pennants I did in paper myself on an inkjet printer then painted them with matt polyeurethane varnish.  I simply downloaded a set from the internet at the correct period, resized them and printed them.  I gave them a very light wash to knock back the overly bright white.
