Title: Model Boats Magazine Feb 1972 - Wide Awake build
Post by: CliveJ on September 30, 2024, 10:59:35 am
Hi,

I am contemplating a Wide Awake build - I understand there may be an article in the Model Boats Magazine February 1972

I am having difficulty in sourcing this magazine, perhaps no surprise it is over 50 years old  {:-{

Can anyone help please ?  :-))

Thanks Clive

Clive,
Here is a link to Wide Awake launch build by a past member ( pattern maker Mike Brown ) no longer with us. ( http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,30710.0.html (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,30710.0.html) ) he truly was a master builder.

George.

Hi to all that have responded  :-)

I am very grateful and surprised at the responses  :-))

SteamboatPhil - I am planning on building a borderer steam plant, from plans (awaited from Sarik) I will then decide whether to build from stock materials or go to Reeves 2000 for a casting set - boiler not decided yet, some way off for that !

Thanks Martin for the Links - I have plans enroute from Canada  :-))  - the build log by Ramon is brilliant

TheLongBuild - thanks for looking I now understand the article may be across several issues Feb/Mar/Apr ?

A big thank you to you all for your interest and responses

There were three articles in a Model Boat Magazine in the early 60s, I have scans if you want to send me a PM.  They are not really a build article, more of a description, but still interesting.

There were also four articles in Model Boats Magazine from June '22 to September '22 describing a build of a Wide-A-Wake.  This one:

Hello !
"La Mouette " (MRB magazine) being the French translation (by M.Andreoti) of the article concerning the building of "Wide Awake "  in Model Boat Magazin , which is , fortunately , a lot more complete and with clearer explanation for the clinker building !
I personally , used the post of Pattern Maker -Mike Brown as underligned by Ooooya to understand it all.
