Hi, my Borderer steam engine is progressing well, I am now looking ahead to the boiler. I am favouring a vertical (having previously built a horizontal). I am in pursuit of drawings please, if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Reeves 2000 have drawings for a 6" vertical, has anyone any experience of this ? (looks as though it might be a bit on the large size for my Borderer/Wide Awake project ?) Thanks in advance :-))

Clive you could have a look at the boilers and the drawings that are in the K N Harris Model Boilers and Boiler Making Book. The Number 5 design is straightforward or if you are up for the challenge a smaller version of the Number 6 would be a fabulous creation, it is of compact design with high evaporative capacity and good thermal efficiency. Good luck with your project

Hi Clive
If you can get a copy of "Model Boats " Sept 1993 there is an article by Peter Arnot with drawings of a boiler that can be made either vertical or Horizontal complete with all the accessorise including a Gas tank and fittings, the burner is not available any more but I can give you a copy of a burner drawing to suit a centre flue boiler.
He also posted a design for a V-4 Oscillating engine in the same issue again with all the drawings and fittings.
If you can't get a copy, I don't know if Model Boats still keeps back copies. please contact me and I may be able to help.
George.

Peter's is nice and simple and I think I have the article and drawings, please give me a day and I will let you know
