Hello everyone
Question has anyone on here formed what appears to be styrene plastic? over a front canopy or over other wood structures
On this beautifully done model of a kneeler down hydro. I would ask the member who built the model but unfortunately from what I understand is no longer a member of this forum. Any input as to what material was used to do this? and how it might have been attached
Would be appreciated .

Could it be very thin ply spray painted? Would be more appropriate than styrene given the materials in the rest of the boat.

The kit uses aeromodelling air frame covering methods for the white open framework areas -
sticky backed film, or iron-on Solarfilm/Oracover heat shrink plastic films or fabric applied by dope then painted etc.
If its Ernie Lazenby's old model? being an experienced builder may have done his own thing?
Try searching for Aeronaut building instructions they are available online.

0.5 Styrene or ABS sheeting could be used and "Pull" molded over a former using a hot air gun as the heat source. It seems to be a flat sheet with 2 curves down the sides and not 3D as in an aircraft canopy. No need for Vac forming.

or slow heating the styrene / ABS in an oven and form over a plug as an alternative ??????

Were applied. I agree with ChrisF I think it might just be wood veneer painted . If it were styrene would that be difficult to attach to a wood frame properly ?

Deluxe Materials Superphatic glue will bond wood to styrene quite effectively.
