Title: Do you know Rocking Whale steam machines ?
Post by: rhavrane on June 24, 2025, 12:32:40 pm
Bonjour,
A friend has brought one to show it to me and I have had the opportunity to test it on air :           https://youtube.com/shorts/cNf9nvSxip8
Runs very well and smoothly, not too expensive for a 6 cc and also exists in V2 or V4 versions  :-))

Never heard of them, but that machine certainly looks pretty!

Any additional info?

Bonjour,

My friend has bought it there : https://www.enginediy.com/fr/products/rw-l2-retro-mini-inline-double-cylinder-steam-engine-model?_pos=1&_psq=rw&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Two other models of this company are also available.

I have the V Twin version of the engine from the Rocking Whale company. It is beautifully machined. The castings are stunning and the cylinders have stainless steel cylinder liners inserted in them. I have run it a few times on air and it just runs very smoothly and well. It's a 6cc V Twin double acting engine with Stephenson link reversing mechanism. Here is a link to a short video of my engine running on air - it will look awesome in an open launch. https://youtube.com/shorts/-Gyplrd3GlA

The aesthetics are a bit less to my liking (I prefer machined looks over cast looks, but that is strictly a visual and strictly a personal preference), but the mechanical specs (piston rings, ball raced crankshaft, Stainless Steel liners, etc) suggest a machine that offers, in exchange for very little maintenance effort, stellar performance and durability.

I absolutely like it, and the price is absolutely acceptable as well.

It is a beautiful line of engines. I wonder if they are original creations or made after some existing plans?
