I'm having trouble sourcing an Action Condor 20 ESC from Component Shop. I suspect the manufacturers do one production run a year and if the retailer sells out then you've had it until the next time!
Can you recommend an alternative ESC for brushed motors, up to 20A which runs in both forward and reverse? I used to use Maplin and Electronize ESC's as well as Action so thats the sort if thing I am happy with.

I have always found Mtroniks to be very reliable and simple to operate.

Hobbywing / quicrun 1060 ESC….inexpensive, reliable and available - rated higher than you need but that’s a good thing.

I agree with Grasshopper. The Quicrun 1060 was recommended to me too and it seems to be a nice little unit. You need to set the jumpers to forwrd.revers mode as explained in the instructions.

Mtronics for me, waterproof and reliable, my oldest one is over 20 years old and still fine.

Have you used one of these? I have used some modern esc’s - Mtroniks in fact - and found the speed control to be quite harsh - not proportionate to stick movement and the one i used was better in reverse than forwards and it put me off ‘modern’ stuff. If this quicrun 1060 gives smooth acceleration and deceleration then I might be tempted to buy one!!

It does on my Greek Fishing boat powered by an old Monoperm on 6v. I can't speak for other motors.

I spent a while trying different speed controllers on my 1/32 motor yacht. Twin shaft with 540LN motors. Had a terrible experience with the action electronics P108, couldn't get smooth operation. The Mtroniks marine Tio 30 worked great but had a high pitched whine I couldn't stand so I was glad when one went pop and I had an excuse to try the Quicrun 1060 that someone at the club had reccommended and I haven't looked back. The work smoothly and quietly. Only one minor snag is they will only work with up to a 9 cell NiMh pack and won't operate with a 10 cell but a slight tweak to the props made up for the loss in speed.

Interesting- I’m using a 3S LiPo pack with a BEC to drive the electronics . I think the battery is probably 11.4v after it’s dropped a bit after the initial run. The other ESC - an Action P84 twin and rudder mixer - is working just fine with that power source.

An update. To be honest, today I was gifted several boats and bits for my club and with the bits I found a J Perkins Marine Brushed ESC rated at 50A which may well solve my problem, that's assuming it works of course!! It doesn't look particularly frazzled though but how smooth it is I really don't know!!
