Sorry chaps but I am totally ignorant about modern radio control. I have the chance to buy a Futaba 6EXAP radio system at a good price. It comes complete with servos and reciever but the reciever is a 35 mhz, not 40 as I require.
Is it simply a case of buying a new reciever to the correct frequency or will this Tx not function with 40 mhz. Any help would be appreciated.

Barry - Both Tx and Rx will have to be 40MHz to function and keep you legal on surface craft.

Thanks for that Barry m but doesthis TX have the capability of switching or is a a definite no no?
-
No dont buy it as you cant change from 35 to 40

Stavros is quite right, you need dedicated gear. 35mhz sets are more common as they are aircraft only, that's why more come up for sale.

Thanks guys, saved me from myself there. The seller even advertises it as either 35mhz or 40mhz....Cheeky

Ebay item 320189429370 'Installing Radio Control in Boats' was published in 1990 but still gives a decent basic grounding in R/C and is (presently) very cheap. My mention of this is not entirely altruistic - I'm also selling it. ::)

Thanks barrym. I have updated version of this book and found it had simply not updated enough. It still talks of 'Bobs boards' and the like. Nothing at all about the new generation of kit available. thanks anyway.

I'm still using Bob's Boards.... :)
What's this new fangled stuff? - Have valves been superseded? :o

Yes I am still using a Bobs Board in an old caldercraft Talacre and at nearly 20 years old it still works well.
Happy Xmas to you and all.

What are these bobs boards.........i dont remember inventing anything......and if i did are they any good :D :D :P

Piece of circuit board with a 'to and fro' resistance circuit etched on. They were stuck to the top of a servo and the copper tipped contacts attached to the servo spindle.
When you moved the servo, it varied the resistance delivered to the motor in either forward or reverse.
Very simple. very good. Precurser to the ESC's.

and when the contacts wear, they arc up like a mig welder!

The Bobs Board in my Talacre is best part of 18 years old. the only maintenance has been a quick wipe with an old cloth but it continues to work perfectly.
