Title: are plastic kits big enough

with a downturn in my abilities to make a fulsizeR?C scratch model boat :embarrassed: :embarrassed: i am forced to search fo easier options ie: plastic kits  ::) ::)from the likes of TAMIYA,OR newAIRFIXkits :P :P capable of motorisation an r/c  obiously i would prefer MTB'and some kind of service ships any help wouild be useful as my searches on the 'NET'have provedfuitless.cheers chaps.roy (mtb)

George Turner does some small R/C models. A member of the Southwater Dabblers has built a few Revell/Airfix kits and made them R/C, he will be at Brighton Modelworld with them this weekend.

He has 5 differnet kinds of 'MTB'. Plastic hull and deck, resin fittings. I have the Vosper MTB - along the lines of plastic kit for assembly but easier. Detail good and reasonably robust. Using the running gear recommended its impressive on the water.

If you get any problems George is a gent.

To sum up I would say its was a pleasure to build and a joy on the water.

thanks dickyd was hoping someone wouldmention it as i've been eyeing it should be fairly big aa better thanthe 72nd scale even if it is not a vosper.still if this one is successfull they might do some others.mtb(roy in london)gonna have a go at making something in plastic casrd see if thats easier.once i've made my first hull i could try making other grp ones from itthen just make rudementary card superstructures.?

         Not wishing to be forward here ::), check out my site :). The semi kits I produce are aimed at the novice/ intermediate modeller and can produce excellent results. O0

I've started building theLindberg blue devil, which my brother in law gave me at Xmas.
At first I was discouraged by the large amounts of flash on some parts and the inaccuracies described in some on-line articles.
But, there are good points:

The hull is a good size, there's plenty of room for a buggy pack battery, etc.
I did a bath test and the model takes 1Kg in weight plus the battery pack to bring it down to the waterline.
The parts are big enough to not be fiddly or too prone to snapping off.
The detail is perhaps a little coarse but I think it will look good at a distance.

But of course it's not an MTB.

I built a little Airfix 1/400 George V and had the opposite problems. The Airfix looks nice but is too small and fragile to make a model that I can take to the lake often.

If your after a plastic kit of a vosper mtb then tamiya are re launching (no pun intended) their 1/72 scale perkasa originally a motorised kit. check this link from model shipwrights http://www.modelshipwrights.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=3472
