Yup Jecobin have just release 2 sets of plans for the new HMS Astute SSN.
1:96th scale ( 40"/1016mm hull length ) http://jecobinplans.com/estore/product_info.php?products_id=391
1:192nd scale ( 20"/508mm hull length ) http://jecobinplans.com/estore/product_info.php?products_id=390
I've just ordered the 1:96th scale plans and a load of blue high density foam....

what scale are you going to build it in?
would of thought 1:72nd would be a good size

I think that will answer your question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes thats the scale available, but he may be getting them enlarged.
the main scale available for warships is 1:96th so you have to sometimes
enlarge them
-
40" or 1:96th scale is about the max I can physically handle due to 2 squashed disks in my back so thats the size i'll be building her at.
Going to be a fairly long build to give me the time to get a couple of test attempts at making a mold from a former and laying up a hull in grp with small test hulls.

OK here's her measurements at 1/96th scale

Draft : 5 6/16"/137mm aft ( highest point of casing to keel ) , 5"/127mm forrard of sail
Pump Jet : Length 1.25"/29mm , diameter foreside 2 1/8th"/54mm aftside 1 5/8th"/42mm , 15 bladed impeller 1 7/8th"/48mm

If you made her to 1/100 scale, thus matching up well with the OTW Vanguard, the hull diameter-less sonar- comes out at near enough bang on 110mm, which is precisely the diameter of waste pipe tubing- cheap and readily available.
Now that just leaves you with making the upper supersturcture, sail, bow and end pieces, which you can make from foam, wood or whatever you have to hand, take plaster casts, then mould them in GRP.
Scribing and further detailing can be done on the finished castings.
Food for thought?

Now that sound like a good plan...
