Fred Steer. Although a modeller for much of my life in one form or another I only read the articles I found interesting and never got into the politics of what goes on around the hobby. I am also lucky in that once finished with a subject my mind can completely eradicate any further memories of said subject unless I want to recall it.
Somewhere along the line I fear I have missed something about a very unpleasant person who has not done our hobby any favours.
Would you like to re-educate me in your usual (printable) fashion?
-
How high are your wellies? ;D ;D ;D
You might be getting into very deep water!
(I haven't got a clue who Fred Steer is either)
Regards, Malc

There are some things it is better not to know... :o
-
Tend to agree with you there Colin
-
And so say (almost all) of us !!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Very informative so far lads thank you..................... ???

I think it's Martin's alter-ego? ;D ;D ;D

To be absolutely honest I have no idea who Fred Steer either.... I just didn't have the nerve to ask anyone! ;D
I did however find a link (on the BMFA website) to something called 'potty productions' which certainly appears to have some kind of affinity to a gentleman called Fred Steer... :o
I didn't hang around too long as I was bombarded with all sorts of iritating pop-ups - something that is guaranteed to promote a speedy retreat as far as I am concerned! It was then that I could hear a strange kind of creaking sound and the room temperature began to fall and I started to shiver......
So I'm still none the wiser.... :-\
-
I think you hit the nail right on the head when you used the phrase "irritating pop-up". That's Fred Steer exactly, apart from the fact that he seemed to have cornered the world market in exclamation marks. The guy was also almost single-handedly responsible for keeping going the most pointless and boring thread on any forum anywhere in the known world (was it "BOF's" or something like that? Over 500 postings and 10,000 hits............aaaargh!!!!!!!!!!)
Having said that, I always suspected that someone was having us all on; rather like the late Peter Cook, who used to phone up a late-night local radio program when he was drunk and pretend to be a lonely Norwegian fisherman called Sven. I wish I'd heard those calls; the man was a comic genius in my book. Has anyone got any tapes of them, I wonder?
As far as the real identity of Fred Steer is concerned, I reckon Anmo knows more than most...........................

Careful what you wish for, you might just awaken a sleeping beast.
Having said that, White Ensign and he had a thing going on, or was it just a rumour?
It was all mindless fun - an escape from the real world.
-
Ahhhhh, the plot thickens!!

an escape from the real world.
You mean we're actually living in the real world.....?
-
O.K. then- I open the curtain a bit....
On the old forum Fred Steer had started a thread, called the GOP or BOF section. This was due to the average age of modeling...
It was an absolutely senseless, but sometimes humourous post. The only goal was to crack the miracle 50 pages...- that was the thing we had going on. :D had a bit of the Statler and Waldorf-smell (for all those who remember the Muppets-show).
Fred is doing somewhat in potty productions, but as ambernblu mentioned earlier, it was full of pop-ups..... like Fred.
::) That`s all, folks!

My lips are sealed, and they're staying that way !!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Brian- there is nothing left to say. Fred is Fred- and nothing else. And he don`t need to be more than that.
We had some fun and enjoyed the humourous posts... and that`s it.
Finito, Basta, habe fertig! ;D

Jorg - where am I? I thought that this WAS the muppet show!

;D ;D Malc, life`s just what you make it.... ;D ;D

Careful what you wish for, you might just awaken a sleeping beast.
Keep your voices down please, he might hear us & come to investigate ....
-
Im with splodger on this keep quite he may hear and well its a whole hobby in itself?
Regards Mark
PS if anyone is thinking of googling 'potty productions' (the name gives it away) I suspect you should have your pop up blocker set to over the top high?
anyway im off to see kermit and fozzy
-
Jorg,
I am to blame for starting the thread it was OUR FRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who Steared (ouch!) it in the direction it went.
I say nuffink else.
-
Navigator- you will sooner or later get your red baize bag and a dozen lashes! :D
-
Jorg,
So you FINALY admit to being a muppett, hehehehe.
Bob
-
Hey, don't you think this would make an excellent sit-com - I haven't laughed so much for ages! :D
Anyone suggest a suitable name for it then (surely not the Muppet show, thats already been used!) ;D
.... and maybe we could ask Pointy to write the script..........??
-
Hmmm- how about: The boat-leggers?
This reminds me to a song from the late 60`s..... "These boats are made for walking, and that`s just what they do....."
Shipmate, being a muppet is the perfect base to become an area rep. of .... ;D ;D ;D
-
Yes it is a funny thread, I think there may already be a similar sitcom we could rename it slightly
Last of the summer sailing
For those form overseas it?s ?Last of the summer wine? to give it a correct title. It?s about a bunch of guys mostly older to retired generation who potter around with well a bunch of good ideas in theory but barmy in reality, hard done to by the females in the show.? Hmmmmmm sounds familiar? ?
-
Jorg,
Ease up there mate you will set the others talking.
Now where is that grating..................
