Title: KNRM Model Lifeboat
Post by: Charlie on July 06, 2006, 05:12:23 pm
I have just carried out sucessful first sea trials of my 1/14th model of the Dutch Lifeboat 'Christien'. She is now 90% complete, just a few more fittings to make and fit.

Well, the plans were obtained from KNRM Headquarters in Holland. They have plans of all their boats available for sale. The hull and wheelhouse were GRP mouldings. The inflatable tube was constructed by building a cylindrical framework from Balsa along the edge of the hull. This was then covered with ply and given a coat of Surfacing Gelcoat. The result is light but very strong. She is powered by two Graupner Waterjets and 700 motors. Here are a few more photos of her:

An unusual form of construction. The finished "tubes" look very effective. A nice boat.

Having watched the video it seems to be moving along at about the right speed, can you tell us the overall length, beam and weight..

The hull was built by me, it was moulded from GRP. Overall length is 41", beam is 15", and she weighs in at around 11 lbs.

It really does not seem to be that long even in the video, I expected it to be somewhere in the 12 to 14 inch range, but being nthe size you state it looks even better, well done very nice job..
