I have used a variety of motors in a variety of builds. But for larger tugs I will used a power seat motor. They are a low rpm and have lots of torque and can be used as a direct drive. On TID tug I am building this motor will be turning a 4in prop. I will give you an update after the water test.

A 40 year old, 500 size motor and a Graupner 50 mm. 3 blade plastic prop but she almost planes and the bow wave can be as high as the rail!
