...Hi Stavros...
A Battery Powered Screwdriver is what I use for a working towing winch...
Fit a 6mm hex key into it & add 2 of the larger diameter discs from a servo & away you go...

Morning Stavros,
I have built several working winches, now comes the crunch questions
do you want it to be the actual deck winch that is the working part or do you want to have the winch hidden and the tow line appear to come from the deck winch.
Do you want the winch to pull loads and not run out at any weight
what power are you thinking of using
one way is to canabilise a 4X4 rc car for the diff unit and then glue the systen so that the differential is locked you will then have a reduction gear and a 90 deg drive assembly. the motor drive can come through the deck or from within the accommodation, one side of the diff needs a drum for the tow line the other can have a "drum end" for astetics.
is this any help

If you have any pictures it would be appreciated. (kd6hq@sonic.net).
Actually I not thinking of a towing winch but an anchor winch. I don't see why the same ideas would not work.
thanks

...Hi Stavros...
Here is another idea for a Working Towing Winch...
It is made from an old American Multiplier Fishing Reel...I then fitted a geared Motor onto the Main Shaft with a Drive Belt..(O. Ring)...
The only problem was that when I put full power onto the props the Drive Belt tended to slip a wee bit...I suppose the Belt could be changed for a toothed one...
...Best Regards...Norry...

hi stav if you can hide the winch which with the room in that hull i am sure you can you could fit a screwdriver under the decks somewhere this one is on an afon alaw of mine sorry the pic isnt better

Hi, just took a few pictures of the stern winch on Tito.
This was a diff from a rc car which was built within the original Tito winch kit, I cut off one drive shaft and then fitted a drum to the other side. I stopped the differential planet gears from turning with plastic steel.
the input shaft goes through the deck and has a home made spider drive which then links with a converted servo giving a very strong pull.
You may be able to make out the helical gear of the crown wheel from the diff.
My Fwd winch has a threaded spindle (driven again from under the deck) this I was able to match up a cog wheel which I glued to the side of the original Tito Fwd winch kit.
Just two of the ways I have made working winches.
Sorry I have very few pictures I will try to take some on future builds/ modifications.
