Hello folks. I'm looking for a supplier who has 6mm brass tubing with an inner diameter of 4.2mm. I found one shop in Germany, but the cost in Euros to ship it to the Colonies sucks. I'm planning to use this for shaft tube. The same type is used in the Dickie Tug prop shaft and Graupner uses an plated version on their shafts. It works with 4mm and 5/32 rod for a nice inexpensive drive line.

try Mallard metals, they have a good range of stock.

Presumably the shaft is not going to be a close fit in the tube for the whole length?
-
Actually it will. Midwest and Graupner do this with their shafts/tubes. Just making my own to reduce costs. Yes, I know about other ways of making stuffing tubes to make room for lube.

might be teaching granny to suck eggs here, but, you will prob get more friction on the shaft this way than if you had a bush at each end.
Commercial shafts aren't really exy, why not buy one?

Cos I'm a scratch builder.....and scratch builders always want to make something of it ;D

fair comment, must admit I make my own. I turn out phosphor bronze bushes and use in brass tube.

In which case why don't you buy a piece of 6mm brass bar stock and a 4.2mm drill? If you don't have a lathe or access to one then I am sure that you could rig something up to enable you to drill the stock accurately.
I'm not too sure what the difference is in buying a ready made tube or buying a tube of 6mm OD and 4.2mm ID.

Our local Homebase store stocks a good range of brass rod and tubing. Pete M

If ever stuck for this stuff (6.0 mm x 4.2 mm) give us a shout don't usually have a lot and if not got any i will be getting some, mainly use thinner tube 6 x 5.2 allways got loads of that about 100 mtr on the norm.
mallard metals is good but expensive.
good luck with the shafts.....
