Have a look at this site, all who are interested in subs. Hope I have copied the website correctly....Mick

The site works great many thanks, but the sub is actually the 534!
I'm glad I actually went through her before they cut it up and got a real feel for life inside.
-
not sure why I called the boat U537, anyway, here is a photo taken last year...mick

i would change the subject title..if i knew how....mick

I am undecided if cutting her up into sections like that is a good thing or not, after all the effort to bring her up in one piece in the first place, seems a step closer to becoming another engineering/maritime artifact reduced to scrap metal to me, just my thought :-\
-
Yes like the science museum with the old paddler tug, sectioned it then scrapped keeping only the engines.
-
Just ask and hey presto!!

thanks bob, O0 here is a rear view...these are a mates photographs by the way

Where is it going? i know there's probably a link but that entails reading and i struggle without pictures ::)

This is the sub in Birkenhead. It had to be moved because the area it was in was being redeveloped. It has been sut into three sections for display at a different site.

Oh i see. it's a shame it had to be cut though

Progress so far. At least you'll be able to view inside the hull , with out to much of a problem .

It is a shame to cut it up but the alternative was to scrap it.
The lesser of 2 evils.

I was lucky enough to do the tour when she was still intact but the thing is it was actually quite hazardous and so limited to able bodied people.
At least this way she will be open for everyone to see so there are advantages. I agree it is a shame but keeping it in one piece and hence available to only a limited number might not be making the most use of the exhibit anyway.

I visited HMS Ocelot at Chatham recently. This is a much later and larger boat but she is still really cramped inside and you have to swing yourself through the hatches feet first.
-
Nice one of the Ocelot, reminded me when as a young kid at Chatham Navy Days when we would all queue up to walk through a sub. Older and wiser I why Jack was happy to stand at the bottom of the ladder to help women aboard down the ladder and up the other end (mum being married to a matelote found an excuse not to visit the sub).
