Title: Tung Oil

I’m getting ready to plank my sailboat and am considering using Tung Oil this time.
Normally speaking I use 3 coats of polyurethane which seems to work well.
Any advise on using the tung oil?  How many coats, etc…..?

Dunno about tung oil, but I have used Dansk oil to great effect. 3 coats were ok.

None at all, I used it on the deck of my drifter featured in the masterclass section.

I have also used it for the top plank and all the insides of a full size dinghy, see 1:1 builds.

Don, I have used a tung oil / polyurethane mixture available here in Australia from paint suppliers, for deck planking on several of my models. It is somewhat thinner than straight polyurethane, and seems to penetrate the timber very well. I usually apply 3 coats, and I'm very happy with the results. It is also very water resistant, as water just "beads" on the surface and is easily wiped off at the end of sailing.

Thanks Peter.
It never occurred to me to mix the too.
I'm guessing they did it to bring the wood color out and at the same time form a hard seal.
I'll look for a mixture here and give it a try.
I'll post a picture (before & after), but it will take a couple of days.
