A friend has lent me June MB. Page 25 shows the Jecobin plans for the Daring class, with apparently an ASROC launcher (or something similar?) between the forward missile farm and the suoerstructure, but I can't see anything like this on Daring as built, and there doesn't seem to be room for it either. Is this a case of post - design changes?

Most plans released are "As Fitted " plans.
These are the plans that the yards are given to quote their price on.
Over the build time of any RN vessel some things are altered for "Final Fit".
You wont get these plans as they are still classified.
But you can use the "As Fitted" plus photos of the actual ship.

the ASROC things are 2 sets of quad harpoon launchers
if you look at a tyoe 23 it is the same layout

What an excellent forum this is. Two helpful and friendly replies. VMT both.

I was down at Braehead last week - there were 2 type 45s tied up alongside and another in the berth being fitted out. I dunno if this is news to anyone, but the big tennis ball on top with the four whiskers was revolving on one of them - I had thought that it was just a static cover for the rotating radar gubbins inside.

Hi Tobyker
The kinder egg ( :} ) turns as you saw
I dont know but did you see inside the boat decks?
If you did the railings inside are collapsable and fold towards the stern and there is
a crane housed inside that is a Z kind of fold so it folds in and out while always at roof level :-))
Long build
I will try and get some soon for you with all 4 there so far.
My camera is playing up because I missed a funny picture they had just brought Defender's stern
out of the yard and placed it on the slip very close to the rest they have built and when you looked all
it looked like was the bow, bridge and stern all welded together (instantly thought of a new round of MoD cutbacks O0 )

something new and differant for these boats is the hanger door it seems to fold up instead of rolling up
you can see it detter in one of the pictures above
