From the Popeye FAQ

According to Bud Sagendorf, one of the creators of the Popeye comic strips and comic books over the years, it's The Olive.

I have a couple of old cartoons on Beta tape, re-recordings of old B&W episodes, and he's driving a little craft called the "Sweet Pea".

Cheers

Hi Stavros,

I did type in that exact request and you have given me the same reply but and here is the but....

I have some old 9.5 mm hand speed film and in one there is popeye on a boat which has (as far as I can make out)

'something' pea. sorry the film is old and faded from handeling. So I took it that the boat was called The Sweet Pea but the web site says The Olive.

So you see the dilema is there for me.  and no matter who I ask the answer is different. its just turned out to be one of those things that bug you (me)
