What type of servo is recommended for these.
Also can anyone give guidance on tuning the rigging
thanks

Bluewotsit,
Any standard servo can be used in a marblehead for the rudder with no problems of any kind, but a winch servo is a must for control of the sails, there is a variety of winch servos around, I use GWS winch servos in most of my yachts with no problems, they are quite cheap and redily available...
Any other problems just holler..

Marbleheads have a lot of sail area and even the big GWS servo will be underpowered. The Hitec HS815BB Servo will serve you better, although I think winches are preferred to sail-arm servos for these.

From what Ive been reading this could be a difficult one to gauge as most people seem to have several sets of sails.
I agree that the winch is probably best
cheers

Update - Ive got a Hitec winch installed and working - now to try and find some instructions on how to connect all the rigging lines, etc theres several more than on yachts Ive used before !!

Hi BW
Try this site for a help on info including winch line paths etc.
http://www.onemetre.net/
I know it is for one metre yachts but all the rigging is the same. As mentioned above the sail area on a Marbelhead is far too powerfull for a sail arm to control, but i see you have got a winch so that's ok
There might also ]be some useful leads on the MYA site as well at www.mya-uk.org.uk
Best regards

Martin,
The GWS winch is perfectly capable of operating the sails on a marblehead yacht with ease in any conditions we have about fifteen in our club that use GWS and no one has a problem, If you have had a problem maybe you had it set up incorrectly, I find that the hitec winch will also work well but is better suited to an even bigger yacht...

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong type of servo. For my 950 mm Saphir, which carries little more sail than an IOM C rig, I use the Supertec SO4 http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=880 , which I believed was a GWS design. Even with a 5 cell pack, it has problems in really stiff breezes (bft 5 - 6). Your recomendations for a GWS with more torque would be appreciated, as their prices are better than for similarly rated Futaba/Hitec.
P.S. I've just seen the S777 on http://www.servohut.com/HTML/heavy.htm That's a real giant of a servo but the price is a bit much for my budget >:(

The Winch Servo's that I am using are numberedS125 2BB, the seem to do the job well over here..
