Title: MAYHEM WORLDWIDE
Post by: Roger in France on August 06, 2008, 04:31:52 pm
Having read the recent topic"....Mayhem gets to some strange places..." I thought it my be interesting to see how worldwide Mayhem Members are scattered.

I thought Members may like to say in which country they are based. Clearly we don't need dozens of entries saying, for example, "England" but some Members may like to say which county/state/ dept. etc they are in.

I will set the ball rolling:

"Roger in France"    Dept. 85 "La Vendee".   France.

Thanks, Danny - that's the main road not far from here. The snow won't be falling for a month or two yet, but when it does, it usually stays until April (except for last year when there was none, even at Christmas!).

Currently living in an apartment-type place (sort of a small block of flats, but built next to each other instead of on top of each other, so we have a small garden) but currently negotiating the purchase of a real house in the countryside. The only problem is deciding which of the available out-buildings to convert into a workshop!

Actually, there is probably more room in the outbuildings, especially as they don't have to be furnished.

Ha - next you'll be saying you haven't even met Santa Claus yet!

Easy answer to the outbuilding question - have one for woodwork, one for engineering, a drawing office, a spray shop, indoor test tank, etc...
Thats what we all have - eh, lads  ::) ::) {-)

Waihi New Zealand, not a million miles from Kiwi in Hamilton. The only town I know of with a bloody great hole in the ground right next to the maun street that they take a million dollars worth of gold and silver out of every week! Not to mention the fact that we have a Cornish Pumphouse about as far away from Cornwall as you can get and that we recently picked up this 1800 ton pumphouse and moved it 300 metres so it did not fall in to one of the old gold mines. See http://www.waihi.org.nz/ for pictures and the story.  ::) Oh and just as a sideline we do have a boating lake, man-made by the mining company. Cheers, Ian.

Kiwimodeler ( Ian )
I know the lake well. Have sailed there when I was with the Scale Marine Modeler from Auckland. Now only get to sail at the Armastace Day in Cambridge in November as no decent lakes for boating here in Whakatane. Any chance you can give me dates etc or other contacts so can possibly sail with you guys there. No problem for the 2 hour drive.
Cheers,
Adrian.

Adrian, we sail in Waihi first Sunday of each month from Sept to May and then have the three months of winter off. You will often find people there other Saturdays and Sundays too. We start about 10:00 and got to whenever we have had enough! Council says we can use the lake any time, only restrictions are no IC or Fast Electrics boats. The Scale Marine Modellers visit first Sunday in Sept each year. There will be another lake available in Cambridge by Feb next year and the weed problems at Turtle Lake in Hamilton appear to have been fixed so SMMC will go there in Feb too. Present plan is Cambridge on a Sat and Hamilton on a Sunday. They also go to Hawera in Oct. For $15 I feel it is well worth being an associate member of SMMC just to get the newsletters. Alternatively if you want to send me a P M with your email address I will send on any events notices I get. Cheers, Ian.
ps, yes I have a shed, 9M by 6M but we built a barn style house just so we can have a play room inside that is half the floor area of the building for me to work on boats and her to paint works of art that are going to make us rich one day!

Thanks, Ron, I'm afraid I found the 'at work' reference rather obscure, not been around that long.

Yes, all explained now, but simply 'we have too many Finns at work' is a little baffling if you have no idea of where someone works!

CORK, IRELAND Home to Murphys and Beamish Stout, Jameson Whiskey, the second highest taxes in Europe and no r/c sailors. We have model boaters but no sailors.  If there is any on-line who is an r/c sailor from Cork then make yourselves known.  There's only three of us at the moment and it's a bummer when we argue!!

Sorry about that. I couldn't resist putting in a photo of the fall colours. I took it in Bala up in Muskoka this past weekend. It was a cool wet summer, but brightened and warmed up tremendously after Labour Day. This past weekend was up to 25C. Although the weather was poor, this summer,  it has made for a great colour showing this year.

Love SC, Larry.

I was a guest of the State Govt. in 1968 studying the State consumer protection provisions. Everyone was very kind and so helpful. The homes I was invited into were very special and the leisure time made so very interesting.

I was taken aback when the Governor showed me where his family had traded in ......slaves!

Hi, David.. it looks we met now and then "around the globe" despite not seeing you for a long time..Hope you are well!  and yes, this summer has been a bit lack of snow.. I guess your town has been more on sunny side :-))

@Craftysod,thanks,  boat is made in Vietnam as kind of a  display boat conversion "ARF", we did that rc conversion job from plain hull to be twin outrunner brushless.
It is approx 69" long, weight approx 53lbs. Its powered by 2 big 10-pole motors, each giving out around 3.4KW, totalling somewhat 9,3hp. GPS measured speed is 30KTS/55kmh,
after a lot of finetuning job to hull & props etc..
Running batteries are 10S/42V  Polyquest 6000mAh lipopacks (total 20 cells onboard),

A bit more summerish photos, Installation  pics I have to trace later on, sorry

Ah, the Cub gives it away, Hannu V., I presume? :) Good to bump into you again as well. Now living about 20km closer to Helsinki than Kimmo, surrounded by fields, perfect for flying. So, naturally, I turn to boats instead, as there are no lakes in the immediate vicinity!

its not bad at the moment, its just just all the lakes seem to be frozen over, the ice is thick enough to walk on at the mo, so no sailing until it warms up  :(( , but the scenery is beautiful in this weather

Hi rem2007,
Here is a temporary cure for that homesick feeling. Leaving for my commute to work this morning the cars outside temp. in my garage was reading -15c.
By the time I was outside the garage and a few miles from home the reading had dropped to -28c. Hope this helps.
Looking forward to the boating season.

France.
