Title: Seaport Tug - Where to get one?
Post by: TugCowboy on August 24, 2008, 08:19:42 pm
Hi Guys,

I fancy having one of these on my workbench for a slow project to do while paint is drying etc.... but can't seem to find anywhere online with one in stock, for the Sub £30 mark.

Anyone know of any stockists that my Googling skills might not be picking up?

Many thanks,

Alex

A Seaport tug for conversion!
Sorry I had assumed this was a specific forum for these RTR conversions.

is this winch right for the seaport boat? do you want one?

Drum Winch w/capstans for First Gear Sized Trucks and also smaller scale vehicles.  This winch looks great as a smaller model on the back of First Gear Trucks (10 ton model), and also looks great on 1/50 scale trucks as a heavy duty 50 ton model. It comes un-assembled, with everything shown, and also a hook is provided for the end of the cable. The two I-beams provided are 1" in length, and total width of the finished winch is around 1 1/2".

RcScale list them at £27.48 + p&p

Dont know what they are like as I have never dealt with them.  O0

Thanks DickyD I had looked at RcScale and decided against it to be honest.
From their "about" section it seems they are a Chinese company shipping everything direct, they only accept payment through paypal and I don't know anyone who has dealt with them before.
Last week I got stung by customs for buying an Airbrush from such a company, £40 on a £20 item :( So I'm a bit more weary now.

Sadly for me thats just too many strikes :(

Try this lot tugcowboy. They come from Sunderland but are expensive at £49.99 + p&p

http://www.remote-island.co.uk/Categories/Boats/TugBoat/Radio_Controlled_Tug_Boat.htm

They do however have a price promise that says if you can get it cheaper anywhere else they will match the price less another 10%

Howes do it for £29.99 + p&p but are out of stock at the moment.

RcScale list them at £27.48 + p&p

Thanks DickyD, I have emailed Remote Island and asked them if their will apply their price promise to the Howes or RC Scale price.

Lets see what they say!

I would if there were any listed! I've done a search for "Seaport" Workboat" "Dickie" and that chinese name they go under, but there hasn't been one on for the past few days....and I really want something this week.

Right now I'm without boat, working or not!....'tis like a nightmare I tell you!

Nope! it seems they wont match the price. :(
Bit stupid having a "price promise" then isn't it, hardly a promise if you don't keep it!

Hi,

As I guess most here know, Howes have been sold out of these for a while.  But whilst visiting my farther found two Seaports in Howes sitting in a corner, labelled as faulty at £15ea.

One had a "dead radio" the other "no steering", since the plan was to gut them it didn't matter.  However we couldn't help investigating the faults.  Between the two we found at least three faults before giving up and getting the wire cutters out!  ;D

I get the impression they don't tend to last too long in their original form.  One Seaport still contained a letter from the original customer saying that he had purchased three different RTR boats from Howes over a period of time, and all had been faulty.  I know they're cheap, but that's got to be bad luck!  :(

Title: Seaport Tugs Available again!
Post by: TugCowboy on September 23, 2008, 09:22:53 pm
Hi guys,

Howes have a new shipment of Seaport Tugs in again, at £29.99 same as before, I've just put my order in, been waiting for them to come in for months now, I'm very pleased indeed :D

However, just my luck I notice they come in on a Tuesday night, when Howes close on a Wednesday so I probably won't see it until Monday :(

Get 'em while they're hot boys n girls, they don't seem to hang around long!

Hi Alex,

How do you use the stock servo?

Hi Alex,

How do you use the stock servo?

Not sure what you mean.

Are you asking how to re-use it, or how it works in the seaport "out of the box"?

How do you connect the stock servo to Futaba receiver and use it?
Title: Re: Seaport Tug - Where to get one?
Post by: Martin (Admin) on September 24, 2008, 06:25:04 pm

The servo supplied in the model is not a real servo and can't be used with a Futaba or any other type of receiver.
A "real" servo will cost you £4-8.00

Martin, I found how to use the servo supplied in the seaport model with a futaba receiver. It is just a motor with some gears. While it doesn't respond to an ESC, it does turn if you connect the yellow and blue wires to a AA battery! Next,

take apart a standard Futaba servo, solder off the servo motor and connect the motor leads to seaport's yellow and blue servo wires. The seaport is now controlled by a Futaba left/right stick! :)

It is only a toy.Formerly was Tamiya product. If you change many installation from that boat. I suggest you to buy Model Slipway tug boat. In Hong Kong nobody like it because it is too cheap and ugly.

IF you look around this forum there are many conversions done on these cheap little tugs which make them look anything BUT ugly.

Its all about having a challenge, who cares how much it cost?

Where in the US would one look.

Haven't found any of the on-line usual suspect hobby suppliers that have them?

I'm assuming that the Dickies is a brand name, as there are a number of Dickies Unimog RC truck conversions on the web videos.

I haven't hit toy's R us or the local stores yet.

thanks in advance

From friends in the US, eBay seems to be the place to get them. They go under the names "Dickie" "Seaport" and "Hen Long" and are called either a "Harbor Tug" or "Workboat"

See what eBay pulls up for you.
